My problem with quidditch is the score. Why increments of 10?!??!? Why not just 1 point per score and 15 points for the snitch?!???? It's retarded.

I didn't dislike her character, I thought she was great, just her having reached the classification of Auror.
I think that not all Auror's are Law Enforcement. She may have been more of a social worker auror. Like finding abused children wizards, which explains why she was at the Barebone house.
Also, it would be interesting if Grindelwald did have the Elder Wand and now Tina is the rightful owner since she's the one that disarmed him.

Why didn't Grindlewald kill Newt when he had the chance? Why did it not seem like he was interested in killing anyone.
He's not necessarily evil. He doesn't want to kill everyone and take over the world (Voldemort). What he wants is to bring the magical community out of hiding. The problem is that he wants to do it by way of war with the NoMages. (Did anyone else hear NoVag when they first said it?)

My wife and I are literally in a fight about it because I wouldn't stop saying it in the movie. He has the hair, the attitude, the approval from Dumbledore. His background is mysterious, he "saw a girl go through" the same stuff the guy in the movie went theough trying not to use magic.
I think you've been watching too much Westworld.
Eta: And the soundtrack was absolutely fantastic.

Are you one of the dudes from the Cinema Sins podcast because they had a significant conversation about NoVags

Didn't really care for the movie.

This movie looks stupid. I'm assuming anyone who sees this struggles with homosexuality.
I brought my 10 year olds to see this in 3-D over the break. I thought it was entertaining. They loved it.

JK Rowling has never really been great at thinking out the whole continuity thing. Just look at how ridiculously stupid the rules to Quiddich are. The suitcase world thing was also dumb.
Yeah man, her whole world is just so unbelievable.

saw it last night. I enjoyed it.
Nice getting back to that universe. I really enjoyed the scenes inside the case.
Johnny Depp showing up at the end was a surprise but I was feeling early on that Colin Ferrel was the big bad based on the way he looked in the previews.

I was really enjoying this movie, and the fact that it was mostly light on using callbacks and references to the other stories as a crutch.
It was a cool use of the world to tell an original story.
Then Depp turned up, brought in grendelwald, tethered the whole thing to the main saga, opened up all of the previously noted continuity problems, and nearly ruined it.
I can see just the damn army of character returns, parents, and references just piling on in the future movies.
The incredibly small world created by all of the interconnected relationships and families is one of the few problems I have with the original story. Going to America and doing this whole new story, or using Newt as a catalyst for MOW type movies would expand the universe and retcon the whole scope back to a grand scale.
Instead we're right back where we started for the most part.
Should have known Rowling couldn't leave well enough alone.

Rowling's Harry Potter world would have been so much better and would have opened up so many more stories if they just hadnt been so unbelievable.
She is brilliant with characters and HP was a really enjoyable series but I wish she had gotten some help with her story.

All of these new stories are supposed to center around Newt. Your bigger problem should be with Leatrange more than Grindelwald

I thought it was a neat way of showing how truly brilliant Newt is. It's obviously not some standard suitcase but something he built for himself in order to keep his animals healthy and happy. There were also some boundaries and walls within the case. It wasn't as big as a whole world.
More like a house with a big arse living room and lots of other rooms.

I liked the movie. I won't say it was as memorable as Harry Potter, but I was surprised at how different this movie felt than those films.
I did think that was a pretty poor approximation of 1920s New York. It's so easy to tell that it was filmed in England.

Just saw it last night with the Wife (sorry, no pics) who is a Harry Potter fan.
I liked the movie over-all, not being a HP guy myself.
I think there are some flaws with how the human and magic world are separated. Sorry, but if magic killed a sitting US Senator, you bet the entire War Department’s Military Intelligence Division would be all up in the magic world like white on rice.
Also,it seems the USA was one of the last countries to NOT allow magic and human to marry (yet the president was a black lady, that doesn't make sense). That pretty much apartheid. I have to the think the international magic community would cut of the USA like the world did to South Africa.
And I think Jacob's mind was not blanked. That's why he recognized pink lady.
Anywho, fun movie!

I have to say I'm pretty "meh" on this movie. It wasn't bad, I'm just disappointed on the lack of imagination. Really the only thing we learned about the American Wizarding World is they have a big building, a bar, and forbid contact with Muggles, despite the fact that they clearly live among them and interact with them daily, unlike British Wizards.
I think you could have done so much more with a Wizarding World in New York. There's really nothing to it aside from them living in apartments inhabited by fellow muggles. At least they could have had a Wizarding District where you could have gotten creative with all sorts of Wizards immigrating there and forming their own culture.
JKR needs to get a good writer from America who understands American culture to take over this franchise. It's not beyond repair, but a disappointing start. Hopefully the rest of the franchise is better and darker than this.

I believe they are the new band we will be following. I read that somewhere, but can't remember. I'm curious on what they hold because Grindelwald didn't have the Elder Wand at this time, which he should have. The big duel between Dumbledore and him is in like 1945 where Dumbledore wins the wand from him.
No he has it at this time. Grindelwald got the wand in his late teens to mid 20s. He just used Graves wand because that was who he was impersonating. Graves coming in with the Elder Wand would be a dead giveaway. He's just storing it somewhere for the time being.

I feel when she was writing the books she only had a rudimentary idea of scoring in sports. She was probably thinking of soccer and how most of the world is familair with games involving getting balls in a goal.
She then probably remembered that Americans favored higher scoring games and made the points higher to appeal to a broad book buying market. She then also wanted to make a built in trump card. A hard to catch snitch that ends the game and gives you 150 points. Unless the other team has 16 goals to your 0 you automatically win. It's just a silly idea. You would then play the game with the team going for the snitch.
I agree quidditch scoring was out there, but it was a game where kids put their lives on the line just to play. Easily the oddest most dangerous game conceived.

Sorry, but Quidditch is simply a story telling device to make Harry more important. No way in hell would Football have considered giveing a player who not only scores 45 points with one action, but also ends the game. 999 times out of 1000, the guy who catches Snitch wins the game, which makes everyone else pointless. That's not how a sport works.
Compare Pro-Bending from the Legend of Korra. It makes total sense and from someone who understands sports. It's not like it the firebender hits someone it wins the game. Quidditch is bullshite.
