Put in Harris for deep throws and Etling for short/intermediate throws and the toss dive delivery.

They'll never suspect it.

Good thing Bama's kid isn't very good at the deep ball either.

Don't even care.

Danny isn't going to get enough protection for deep routes to develop anyway.

Short routes and feeding the ball to the TE's is the way to win this game.

Well that's less than ideal. 16.6%

I wouldn't worry too much on the deep balls. It's called "taking a shot" for a reason. They're low percentage passes but the reward is great. Many times they're just used to try and soften the defense and set up underneath throws later on. It also forces your opponent out of stacking the box.

I'll give an honest prediction. If Etling completes 60% of his passes, this is an extremely close game. If he complete 65% we win.

Just keep the D from overloading the box and make them second guess. That's what we need from Etling.

Yea and I don't think that deep bombs are what does this. When they overload the box they are adding linebackers to the D linemen. When you pass deep the linebackers don't really care because they aren't deep. On the other hand if you can take advantage of the 5-15 yards down the field right in the middle of the field then that will work to freeze the Linebackers. Last year, Harris couldn't hit anyone over the middle to save his life so the linebackers would always cheat up to stop our primary weapon: LF7. If Etling can make 3 or 4 of those short over the middle passes that will open up LF7 in a big way.

That's not good but I think a few of those are probably balls that Dupre could/should have come down with. In any event, I had heard a stat earlier that Bama had given up more 20+ yard plays this year than they had in recent years so something's gotta give. I'm feeling like some of these trends will fall our way with home field advantage.

Bombs don't beat Bama. Saban hasn't lost on deep passes since Arkansas and Iowa in 2004. Accurate passes over the middle that force his LBs to cover or chase beats Bama. Stretching runs wide that make the LBs run past the tackle beat Bama. Buying time in the pocket and hitting a TE or RB that make LBs cover or chase beats Bama.

There's no way to sugar coat it. Etling has been pretty bad throwing the deep ball. However, IMO, I think much of that has been a byproduct of him hanging on to the ball just a bit too long.

Still, LSU has to take deep shots to make Bama account for it. My hope is that (1) with this being Etiling's 7th game played (for LSU) and 6th start, he is starting to develop better timing with his WR and (2) he knows he'll have to get rid of the ball quicker against Bama. Therefore, he will almost involuntarily keep from hanging on to the ball just a bit too long and will actually deliver it on time as a result.

Leaving wide open plays on the field is not a recipe for success.

I'm sure our coaches and players know this and he's gotten much better lately. Most of those passes they were covered extremely well. Our WRs need to do a better job setting the DBs up and getting more space between them. I'm sure they have been working on this and LSU has a plan. We'll see if it works?

Its a joke that you have an op who is a known troll start a negative LSU thread, then you have others come in an endorse it. This is comical. All etling has to do is hit the short to intermediate routes like he has been doing and we will be more than fine. Also, you guys think bama will just say screw the deep ball, he is only 3/18....? Good god some of you. Of course they have to respect it and he has hit a few of late...also...bama has blown coverages all year and that won't change with losing their aa Jackson. Etling is very good at seeing the field. All we have ever said iis give us average to slightly above average qb play and LSU is tough to beat...well he is 60% on the year, has great picket presence and good mobility, can move through his progressions, is accurate on short and medium passes, and possesses a high football IQ....and yet y'all are still complaining. Honestly, some miserable fricks on this site.

Low percentage throws by nature and there were at least 4 drops.

True, but his completion average is 12.7 yards per completion. I'll take the short to intermediate completions. That's where games are won.
