I've killed a sackfull with a Beretta 92. Enough ammo, easier follow up shots.
If the shooting is easy, and you can earhole a stationary pig.....its plenty. If its not, you'll be glad to get back on target.
eta......none of this was stand hunting, mine have always been on a stalk or bumping a herd and then going after them.

You need fast follow up shots? I know some old guys in in the hills of NE TN and lower VA that used to hunt just about anything with a Thompson Center Contender. Pick whatever caliber you want they have a lot to choose from. Out of a 12" barrel a 357 with a good hot load has quite a bit of a jump in energy over a 6" barrel. Damned accurate too even out to 100.
I think it was Taurus that came out with a fugly arse 12" 7 shot 357 Mag. That's the one you need.

Out of those three a .357 Ruger GP100. Out of my personal arsenal I'd use this one:

Love shooting the 454 with 300 gr bullets. the target devastation is fantastic and the kick is not that bad at all
for a man.
the one I shoot is ported though so it does lower the muzzle jump. The night time muzzle fireball it throws is damn impressive too.
