Cordless Drill Set Recommendations needed.

I know jack all about tools, and I'm looking for a solid and reliable cordless drill set as a gift for a friend.
Hope to meet these specifications:
- solid battery performance
- powerful
- good for woodworking
- will last
- under $200
I've already been researching, and there are a TON of options. Looking for some ideas to narrow the scope a bit.

I have a Porter Cable 20V drill, impact driver, and sawzall (sp?) that are absolutely excellent. They appear to be built similar to the Dewault tools and have almost an identical battery so I doubt they're much different. Highly recommended.
Here's the drill with two batteries and a charging dock. You can also buy bare tools that run on the same battery to add to your tools later.

I own the M18 hammer drill/impact combo and the Dewalt Brushless 20v drill/impact combo. The Dewalt has better battery life and the impact has a lot more power than the M18. Another aspect to look at is what other tools a company makes that the batteries of the drill will work with. Both Milwaukee and Dewalt make a ton of battery operated tools so you can't really go wrong with either.

Excellent ideas all. Hadn't thought about taking into account the other tools that can be operated with the same battery. I'm sure he would be interested in this.

I have built a couple of fences and countless home projects with my craftsman lithium. Highly recommend. And you can usually get a deal around thanksgiving.

Your first recommendation was the best... go with the makita combo. Note: A friend shouldn't buy a good friend or anybody else a dewalt, much less himself. Have snapped 5/16 bolts with the impact driver and the drills have a long life and good balance. Currently have 4 (pairs) of the drill/driver combo sets and they are all still going strong. Oldest is about 8 years. None of the others mentioned here will last as long or handle as well.
ETA: eight years of weekly use with one guy or another... had maybe 3 batteries crap out in this time. The batteries are where the real expense is... note price difference between 2.0 to 3.0 to 4.0 batteries. The charger is good and fast. If for home use two batteries will suffice.

I got the Dewalt 20v max driver/drill set about a year ago at lowes for I think around $200. I haven't been disappointed at all. The battery seems like it last forever. The driver comes in really handy for lots of things and the batteries are interchangeable. So if my drill battery ever did start getting low, I could just take the battery from my driver and use it. Also, I really like the different speed and torque adjustment on the drill.

LOL. This topic is worse than GM v Ford v Ram threads.
Just pick the color and price you can afford and be happy. They are all great. Make sure that the batteries are lithium ion though.

Milwaukee V12 is all you need. Get the set with the Impact Driver and the Drill.
