I agree with changing most of the staff. Not because they're bad, far from it. It's a management issue. Keep (rehire) a few position coaches with key recruiting ties. They can also help navigate the politics with boosters, admin, etc.

You'll lose a few of Carr's recruits, but the program will be better off in the long run. Besides, you'll want the athletes RR brings in on offense particularly. Michigan will be decent next year, but in 3? That offense could be scary.

you guys need it. I wouldn't complain. The last thing a new coach needs is a dead hand on the rudder.

Good, the new coaching staff needs to be loyal to RR and not questioning the way the new guy does stuff

Lots of talk in Baton Rouge about Miles being concerned with that very problem: lots of Carr guys in or around the program plugging up the works (not to mention Carr himself over him).

I wonder what really happened between Carr and Miles. I guess we will never know. Only those two people really know.

You absolutely have to keep at least one member of the outgoing admin for recruiting coordination. Period.

Someone has to maintain the current recruits and lay the high school landscape out to the new HC.

Where's Ron English gonna end up? I hear he's a pretty good coordinator.

And according to the article, the coaches will all get paid for next year. Wonder if that applies if they take another job?

Some schools pay a coach for the next year. If that coach takes another job, if its less than what he is being paid, the school will make up the difference.

McGuffie should still go to UM. He fits RR's offense pretty good.

In his press conference he said that he'd "look" and he wouldn't "retain" but would "rehire" if I remember correctly ...

I'd wouldn't be surprised to discover that there is some benefit to the coaches, in terms of severance pay, the payout on their contract for next year, etc., to having this occur in this manner and at this time. At a minimum it frees them to actively seek other employment at a time when other coaches are putting together their new staffs.

Aye Tiger91

I believe those were the words....rehire not retain.

There are a couple of coaches I wouldnt mind seeing kept...but overall the program did need a houseclearing and that is what it is getting.

Careful guys, we did that in the freaking 90's including Pete Jenkins wour recruiter for New Orleans. Miss State grabbed him and kicked our arse in recruiting in the Big easy for years and yes Miss State even won the west one year.

That was an inevitability once Curley Hallman was hired as the LSU coach, as he never liked Jenkins and went out of his way to screw him over.

(I've heard a lot of these stories over the years, as well as the ones about Terry Bowden getting forced out at Auburn, because Coach Jenkins' wife is a family friend.)

I think RR is making a statement that it is his team now. Good for him...

Most new coaches retain the recruiting coordinator. He's the one with the corporate memory and HS coaching contacts. Not very smart for RichRod. It will sever some ties to the HS's.

He did rehire Fred Jackson, the running backs coach. Jackson was considered the strongest recruiter in the program (besides Carr). And Jackson is the man with the most high school ties, especially in Texas. This was an excellent, if not essential, rehire.
