I'm not sure I agree with this move. I can't believe Michigan doesn't have a few position coaches who could have been rehired. I'm afraid we might lose a few recruits over this. McGuffie already said that he would look elsewhere if Coach Jackson is fired. Also, Pryor said he really liked Coach Lloefler and would consider UM mainly because of him. we shall see.

I don't blame him. RR needs to install his own people to run his program. All business and done professionally.

Probably a smart move on RR part. He is going to have to get anyone related to Michigan out of there or it won't work. You can't have people around you that you are not sure about their loyalties.

Maybe his plan is to "rehire" a few of them? This makes no sense to me.

There are always arguments for and against that when coaches do that.

And according to the article, the coaches will all get paid for next year. Wonder if that applies if they take another job? This also removes any issues with L.Carr hanging around thru his former staff.

I think I can hear Lloyd Carr's old, tired, broke down arse fuming over this from here.

He made it clear in his press conference that he would be "Re-hiring" some of the current staff, not to be confused with "Retaining" his staff. He was careful in stating this.
It's a smart and necessary move.

I wish we had a place open for Fred Jackson...if we promote Monken I'd like to give Jackson a spot somewhere.

philter - I couldn't agree more. I will really be surprised if Jackson isn't rehired.

Dude, Monken is with the Jacksonville Jags.

I would think it would be best if possible to keep one maybe two holdovers to ease with the trasition. But I guess each coach has to do what he think works best.

This is what was expected. As previously mentioned, he made a statement about this at his press conference. He will not "retain" anyone. Some will be "rehired." So, at this point, everyone is fired. However, he will then conduct interviews and probably rehire some of them.
Also, Lloyd Carr, a short while ago, maybe last year, had Michigan extend each of his assistant coaches' contracts by one year. So, when he retired, each of these assitants would continue to get paid for one year by the university. This was obviously a protection Lloyd wanted for these guys in case they couldn't find jobs right away. When Lloyd did this, and the media caught wind of it, we all finally knew, after much speculation, that he was going to retire.

Look on the bright side. This is way better than the news at General Motors: 30,000 jobs cut by 2008.

Careful guys, we did that in the freaking 90's including Pete Jenkins wour recruiter for New Orleans. Miss State grabbed him and kicked our arse in recruiting in the Big easy for years and yes Miss State even won the west one year.

Just got word that 4b star safety Vaughn Telemaque just dropped Michigan. That didn't take long.

That sucks man but the asst coaches do most all the work including the recruiting.
