re: It's official - Mallet transfers. Pryor on way?
Posted by DetroitCity on 1/11/08 at 12:37 am to DetroitCity
Mallet said today, reported by the Detroit Free Press, that he felt forced out of Michigan not by one person, but by RRod's system.
And his father was quoted as saying that he saw his son make huge strides in the last few months in terms of accuracy and reading defenses. Mallet's father attributed his son's growth to former Michigan QB coach, Loeffler. Loeffler is reportedly a front-runner for a coaching job at Tennessee.
Mallet's father was also quoted as saying, 'at Christmas my son came home and told me that he had really fallen in love with Michigan over the last couple months.'
So, let's all chip in and buy Senior Mallet a case of scotch...tell him to chill out, watch MASH re-runs and shut the hell up.

And yes, you're right about Michigan supposedly being the one team to beat in the Big Ten this year. I am not going to play the injury card at all. Simply, what Tressel and OSU did this year in a supposed "rebuilding" year was more than impressive!!!! Kudos.

I am not personally criticizing him. I think he has proven to be a very good coach. But his teams have failed on the biggest stage the last two years. These losses have to have some impact on the way people perceive him. And I have seen it too many times where people turn on coaches. You know, the "what have you done for me lately" attitude. It happened to Carr, and it may be happening to Stoops. Treseel is not above this. He does not walk on water the way Bo did. Look what happened to Woody. No matter how great he was, he could not overcome that ONE embarrassing incident.

Alums, fans and AD's are fickle. This second embarrassing failure by "the vest" is obviously not sitting well in Columbus. It's amazing how quickly untouchables become touchables, especially when they are riding in elevators alone. What was that guy thinking anyway.

Did you guys watch this guy play at Michigan this year? He actually played a lot this year because Henne was hurt. He has a rocket arm, and actually is NOT immobile. Obviously he is no Vince Young, be he doesn't have lead feet. He was a freshman and made freshman mistakes, but he certainly made more than his share of idiotic plays. I am just comparing him to Henne as a freshman, who lead Michigan to a showdown with Texas and Vince Young. Henne was unbelievable as a freshman. Also, the word is that Mallet did not get along with teammates in the lockerroom ,which is a big reason why he is leaving. Maybe his ego is bigger than his ability??? Don't know.

Then stop calling Les Miles "the hat." Anyway, very interesting about Hoke. Maybe RICHROD has given up on the idea of running the 3-3-5 in the Big Ten. Or whatever you call it...THREE-THREE-FIVE.

When did I ever say I knew what Pryor was doing? I don't. I said Mallet was transfering and hopefully Pryor comes to Michigan. Read before you write!!!!

Just heard on radio that Mallet's father also confirmed that his son was transferring.
Hopefully this means Pryor is coming to Ann Arbor, or Michigan is in big trouble next year.

re: Stoops nearing the hot seat?
Posted by DetroitCity on 1/6/08 at 6:27 pm to sabbertooth
When Oklahoma lost the other day, I couldn't help but think about Lloyd Carr. Carr was the toast of the town after the '97 National Championship. And he continued to win big games and bowl games. Then, he started losing all his bowl games and losing to OSU. The last few years the cries for a coaching change became louder and louder. Winning the vast majority of your games doesn't count for much these days at the top progams. You have to beat your rival and win national championships. That's just the way it is these days. So, if Stoops continues this pattern, then he will be on the hot seat.

I don't disagree with you, MichiganMan. There are a couple of things I want to say, but I just don't have the energy anymore to talk about the Lions. Ughhh...ok, one thing: I understand the Lions' defense was bad, really bad, but the offense going 3-and-out all the time didn't help them. The defense did seem to get worn down physically and emotionally a lot. How would you feel if you just made a huge stop on defense, and the offense goes out and throws three incompletions, takes 30 seconds off the clock, and you have to go out on the field again without catching your breath.

Posted by DetroitCity on 1/3/08 at 3:24 am to Aged Woverine
I guess we'll see how he does. I will be curious. Terry Foster always says that English was not allowed to do everything he wanted to do at Michigan. He says he was restricted. That doesn't make much sense to me. Seems like a cop-out. I don't know...

It's all about pass protection. And Martz tried to throw down field every play without having a capable offensive line to protect. Kitna just didn't have time to drop pack and let the routes develop. However, Martz never adjusted. Also, Martz has some problem with running the football. The D-lines were able to pin their ears back all year and tee-off on Kitna.
You have to adjust to your personnel. And Martz never did. He he had a solid offensive line, he would have had a better chance with his system being successfull.

Yea. He did give up a bunch of points today, but it seemed like the defense played well. Is that possible? I am having mixed feelings about English today. I love that he was aggressive all day long and did not go 'prevent' on Florida's final drive. But dang, that is a lot of points to give up. Luckily Henne's arm healed. Henne looked like the senior QB I expected at the beginning of the season. Too bad he separated it. What could of been...

You're right. I never heard Carr publically endorse Miles either. And since there was so much speculation about their relationship, a public response by Carr would have been more than appropriate...IF Carr wanted Miles to come Ann Arbor. So, Carr's silence spoke volumes!!

I can never remember how to spell his last name. And since I don't feel like taking crap and spelling/grammar lessons on a forum, "RR" or "Coach Rod" works just fine for me.

Didn't know about his cousin already being at Michigan. What is the cousin's name? Same last name or not??

Found it. Thanks. He said he is still taking his visit to Penn State though. If you are committed to Michigan, then why visit other schools. Weird.

Maybe. But Lloyd did make reference to "things happening" on the recruiting trail. He said this at his retirement press conference. He also said "let's let bygones be bygones." So, Lloyd may just have been trying to put to rest the speculation. Saying, 'yes, things happened, but they are in the past, so let's move on.'
