Penny Dreadful, and I don't think it's particularly close. Weeds was good for two seasons, but fell off a damn cliff.

If you're not watching this then your life is incomplete. Be warned that Season 3 gets a bit stale, but it ends great and leads into fantastic seasons 4-5.

Damn fine show. Sometimes it takes its underlying gimmick a little too far, but still, a good show.

Great show, I really liked it.
Penny Dreadful is awesome as well. The tone of the show, the cinematography, the costumes, settings, etc....just amazing. Damn shame the show ended.

I love The Affair. It is a beautifully crafted show with a unique style of storytelling. I recommend giving it a shot, though it probably isn't for everyone.
Masters of Sex is pretty good, too, especially if you like period piece type dramas.
And Shameless is a fun ride (I quit a few seasons ago).
