Better poll question might be The Departed or Casino...but I still see Casino ahead of the Departed.

I prefer departed to casino (by a decent margin), but goodfellas is far superior to both

Franky: What?

Tommy: You dizzy motherfricker you, c'mon.

Franky: Oh at Charlie's, okay. closes door, mumbles in Italian, cranks car

Tommy: C'mon, c'mon what're you doin'? Let's get the frick outta here.

Tommy: I got a better shot lettin' him frickin' drive points to deceased Morrie What're you waitin' for? Put the car in frickin' drive. Let's go.

Goodfellas and I don't understand how this is even a conversation.

I mean, only Wahlberg was nominated.

He was a scene stealer in the film. I think Leo and Damon were solid.

Jack swung for the fences and missed. That's what you get with Jack. It usually works. That's what he gets paid for. He's like Babe Ruth - he doesn't get paid for singles and doubles.

The acting from top to bottom was A-grade in Goodfellas. The leads, Deniro, Pesci, Sorvino, Chuck Low, all the gangsters, the entire package is so good, so well shot, so well scored, so well paced that you forget how long it is AND you miss some of the great acting that might be more subtle.

And, the vibe was so good, it carried over to Casino. Unlike most of Marty's earlier films, which relied primarily on outstanding performances from Deniro (or failed if Deniro didn't quite nail it - looking real hard at King of Comedy here), or some other legend (Ellen Burstyn, Paul Newman, etc.), Goodfellas and Casino had massive casts.

When he started to work with Leo, primarily, he got back to more focused, easier to manage films (GONY notwithstanding). I hate to admit I haven't seen Hugo or Wolf of Wall Street yet. I guess I need to catch up.

This thread is stupid.

Departed is a good movie, but it belongs nowhere near Goodfellas. Not even close.

Also, here is my chance to reiterate how fricking stupid the end of Departed was. It was a total copout and ruined what was otherwise a pretty awesome movie. In other words, it made an "awesome" movie into just a "good" one.

GoodFellas is a viable contender fr best movie ever made. The Departed is a good movie. This isn't even a contest.

I'm gonna go kill some guys and score it to Layla.

This reminds me about the piano coda in Layla.

Jim Gordon, Derek and the Dominoes' drummer, was messing around with this piano part when Clapton overheard. Clapton was stunned and impressed enough to incorporate it into the final song, including Gordon receiving a co-writing credit. Gordon was one of the most sought after session drummers of the 60s and 70s. He was also a schizophrenic, killed his mother and has been in prison since 1984.

To me, The Departed is an superb movie, while I consider Goodfellas the best movie made in my lifetime (I'm 30).

Goodfella's. The departed was great, but Goodfella's just has that old school mafia feel to it. The cast is amazing, which makes it a legendary film

I love both movies but I don't think The Departed is on Goodfellas' level.

Goodfellas is an all-time great film. The Departed is an all-time solid film.
