I don't care how good folks think his other films are (Taxi Driver was fantastic, Raging Bull changed both sports films and biopics, just as 2 examples), or how rewatchable Casino is (my personal second favorite Marty film), but Goodfellas is the top of the pyramid of Scorcese films.

This answer.

This one isn't close.

Goodfellas (I love the narration)

The Departed has a better cast and is not far behind though.

Goodfellas is Scorsese at his best, The Departed is minor Scorsese. It was given the Oscar as a lifetime achievement award.

I agree. It is rare that a movie just grabs me and pulls me into it like Goodfellas. The pace, the energy, the momentary screen pauses, the narration, the story, and just the way the movie was shot is almost perfection if not perfection. Moreover, it is amazing in what it accomplishes because all the characters are pretty much despicable. Yet I find them repulsive and charismatic at the same time.

Most people will say Goodfellas, and I agree. But it's close IMO.

I think Goodfellas for sure, and I think it would be even more of a landslide, if the Departed was an older movie. I personally haven't watched Goodfellas in at least four or five years, but I've watched The Departed at least once this year. I kind of got tired of Goodfellas. It seems like they showed it, and Casino, a couple of times a week on cable for the last 20 years.

lets make one thing clear

Goodfellas, the departed, AND casino are all badass movies and deserving of their own greatness.

with that being said, Goodfellas is on another level with the other two
