The Departed is a top 10 movie all time for me, with an amazing cast, but Goodfellas was still a better movie. And by a pretty good amount too IMO. That's how awesome Goodfellas is.

Goodfellas for rewatchability, The Departed if you are watching for the first time

I was gonna say the exact opposite.

I can acknowledge how and why Goodfellas is almost certainly an objectively better film, but from a rewatchable standpoint I def go with The Departed.

I watched Goodfellas again for the first time recently and reacquainted myself with just how it really is a masterpiece of cinema.

Every frame of it is a masterpiece.

I don't care how good folks think his other films are (Taxi Driver was fantastic, Raging Bull changed both sports films and biopics, just as 2 examples), or how rewatchable Casino is (my personal second favorite Marty film), but Goodfellas is the top of the pyramid of Scorcese films.

Goodfellas. And it looks like this is a landslide.

Both are legit top 50 movies ever IMO, but I like Departed a bit more.

The Departed isn't a Top 50 of all time movie. Just no. I like the Departed, but it's hugely overrated. Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth were both released the same year and are far superior in every way imaginable.

I know this may be an unpopular opinion, but I feel Nicholson is overacting so much in this film that it feels like someone else doing an exaggerated impression of him.

His dialogue and mannerisms are just too corny to realistically accept this guy runs shite.

I agree. The Departed is flawed. It's great, but slightly flawed. I think they went a little too far in some parts that seemed a bit ridiculous to me and there's overacting across the board save for Martin Sheen.

Children of Men and Pan's Labyrinth are truly perfect films and I can't think of a single thing I would change about either of them. Even Apocalypto I think is a better film than the Departed, and would be perfect if it weren't for the very end.

I love Children of Men, Pan's
Labyrinth wasn't my cup of tea.

The Departed is just packed with so many great performances from so many star actors. Nicholson and Sheen are at the top of their games. Some people say it's over acted but I think it fits the overall feel of the movie.

I mean, only Wahlberg was nominated. I really think it's overacting from just about everyone in the film. There's just no subtlties to the performances and what you see is what you get. I never forget that I'm not watching the actors in this movie. Jack has had a few performances where I forget who he is as an actor. I think both Clive Owen and Ivana Baquero had superior performances that year.
