How bad does your dachshund shed? We are looking into a long haired one and seem to get many different opinions from not much at all to a lot. Any owners here that can give me first hand input? Thanks!

We have a short haired one, he doesn't shed much at all. My in-laws have a couple of longhair Dachshunds, they don't seem to shed too much.

I had one with an ex gf. I hated that fricking dog. It shed everywhere and peed Everytime you tried to pet it. It was a short haired one though.
I let her keep it when we broke up.

We have one. Shedding is not bad but she is mean. Beats up my 75 lb lab daily.

Had two different short-haired dachshunds growing up and I don't remember them shedding a substantial amount.

They shed, but the hair is short so it's not as conspicuous. Now I have two corgis. My wife vacuums up a third one every week.

We have 2 long-haired minis...... Shedding is not a problem.
We had the "longer-haired" one first and went and got another. Shedding was not a concern, at all.
The only time I can maybe notice them shed is right after a bath. Otherwise it is negligible.
ETA: we have a maid come every other week. She mops, vacuums, etc. We see no need to vacuum otherwise. We have wood floods with area rugs mostly (carpets in some Bedrooms). The dogs run throughout the house.
ETA 2: Sounds like a lot of people in here cannot train dogs.
1) My dogs are very friendly (with everyone).
2) My dogs DO NOT mess the house.
3) My dogs generally sleep in a human bed at night (any of the 3 that are otherwise occupied by humans (my wife and kids sometimes fight over them)).
4) When left alone in the house, we keep them in the kitchen. Sometimes if we are gone for a long time, they mess on the terrazzo floor. They usually mess in the same spot in the corner and we pick it up and swiffer it as needed.
Great DOGS.

I only have experience with short haired ones. They don't shed a ton, but all dogs shed. They are mean though, especially the females. And the problem with the males is they tend to be hard to housebreak and still pee when you pet them. Neutered or not.

Had a black one. Hated that dog. It shed every where. Refused to use the bathroom outside. I would let him out, then he would come in and shite on the rug. And they are hounds. fricker stunk.

no offense, but i've never met a Dachshund that i didn't want to punt into a lake and hope it drowns.
Every one i've ever been around has that little dog syndrome and barks ridiculously as if he can kick anyone's arse. Hyper as shite and don't let you touch them.
There's one down the street from me that i'm about to kill if it's owners don't stop letting his little arse walk 5 houses down to shite in my yard everyday.

They're the most aggressive breed. They only reason they aren't regarded as worse than pit bulls is that they're small and can't kill or severely main anyone. But they can give you a cut that needs stitches. If its one you don't know, don't try to pet it.

I have a standard long-haired Dachshund. He is the best pet I've ever owned.

I have 2 female miniatures, a long haired chocolate and a short haired dapple. Neither shed noticeably. They are sweet tempered dogs but they do both love to bark their arse off when someone comes to the door.

Typically, the short haired tend to shed more than the long haired.
I've had a few, and been around several. Just like most breeds, dogs are a reflection of their owners. Mine love everyone. If you don't pet them when you come over, they will bark until you do. It's their domain, and they deserve to be pet
they are housetrained as long as I don't leave them inside more than 8 hours. after that it's my fault, not theirs.

Add fish oil to their regular dry food. Also, don't let your Dachshund jump up or down from your sofa, chair or bed. They can develop very bad back issues causing them to have to be put down.

No long haired, only a short haired....
and that damn dog is always shedding, don't wear a light colored shirt and hold her.
