Plus how am I sposed to fill up on the midget portions?
Posted on 6/4/16 at 10:30 am to pelicansfan123
I bet you load up on free bread and crackers and work your waiter to death refilling your sweet tea. Probably complain about the portions as well.
If you want to stuff yourself like a slob looking like a slob go eat at copelands.

So just don't go to fancy restaurants and stop hanging out with people that might invite you to fancy restaurants. See, it's easy.
Outback, Golden Corral and Olive Garden need business too.

My wife doesn't really get the 'fine dining' experience either. When we used to do weekends in N.O., I would geek out about planning brunches, lunches and dinners to make sure we hit all the high points- she couldn't care less, as long as we ate when we were hungry. Some people like the fine dining experience and like to be able to try foods that they can't get at their local establishment, like carpaccio or rabbit- Some people are just more interested in filing their bellies for energy. the experience is all in what you make it. Enjoy the time with your family/friends and appreciate that you have the ability to enjoy the finer things in life, like fine dining.

Well to be fair, Galatoires is the only restaurant in the city that still requires a jacket for men. It's really not even a top 20 restaurant in Nola so see if you can change their mind. LOL
And please know, that there are a shite ton of great restaurants in the middle ground, above the burger joint but below fancy smancy, especially in Nola.
I like getting dressed up once or twice a year and doing fine dining. It's just a great experience and I can't understand how it would make you feel uncomfortable.

True story. I'm originally from New Iberia. There are probably 20 guys in NI who own a coat and tie. When I went home for a visit in the early 70s my old HS buddies (also coming in for the holidays) said "Let's try this new restaurant on Main Street."
The 4 of us went through the door and were told "Sorry, gentlemen. You must wear a coat and tie here."
Me: "How long have you been open?"
Him: "A little over a month."
Me: "I'll give you another month tops".
Then we walked out.
The restaurant closed down the next month.
Fancy restaurants are fine for people who like that stuff. It's all about niche marketing.

I know where you're coming from. I feel the same way.

My wife feels the same way, as long as she eats she's fine. I like to try new stuff and dress up every now and again.

Your opinions are strange on this subject.
Your overly-continued use of the word, "aloof", is downright uncalled for. Stop using it and mix things up a bit.

Yes, substance over style in my world. For example, Wolfgang Puck is the most uppity, overpriced crap I've ever paid for.
Bad atmosphere. Loud.
Give me quiet and traditional. USDA Prime Beef. Wagyu, or I even know a place that has Kobe that is upscale, but not fancy in the way you or I describe.

I'd much rather a fancy restaurant than a casual one. I want a chef making my meal.

I don't care for fancy very often either. There's restaurants where you eat foam that has the "essence" of whatever it is you're supposed to be eating. That's some pinky out shot of I've ever seen it

I agree, fancy restaurants that provide food you can get many other places don't intrigue me. Like steakhouses bore the shite out of me. But restaurants that are on the cutting edge are really amazing and they just so happen to have amazing service usually. But while you may see it as being treated as royalty I see it as transacting with the premier professionals in the industry. As far as the coat thing, heaven forbid you look decent in public. Additionally I don't think I have been to a restaurant that doesn't have a Michelin star that requires a jacket.

There's no reason, in my opinion, you should be forced to put on a sport coat to eat food, which is inherently a primeval, physiological activity.
Agreed. That's why I only go to restaurants that allow me to wear my Flintstones-style loincloth. Yabba dabba fricking doo.
