Electronic eyes to call balls and strikes. Yes or No?

If the technology is possible I say yes. Eliminate umpire prejudices.

This is a very Rex like thread.

Not really workable. Go look up the old Slate article on baseball's misleading camera angle. Basically, the placement of the TV camera changes the apparent location of a pitch. They used side by side clips of the same pitch, one from a normal, offset camera and the other from a dead center camera. There was a big difference.

The best answer could probably be using replay on out pitches if they can figure out how to show exactly where the ball is in correlation to the strike zone, like in tennis with the out line, and give coaches a limited number of challenges a game. I've been wanting something like this to happen for a long time.

I am all for it. No more "wide strike zone" or "small strike zone".
I wish Little League would try it out for a World Series one year.

I'd stop watching. It would kill the game. The human element plays a huge roll in how a pitcher attacks the zone.

I really don't see how anyone could possibly say no. You're essentially saying that you are ok with getting fricked by an umpire.

It would ruin the game.
Umps, even bad umpiring are a huge part of the game.

I wish you hadn't started the thread because that probably kills the possibility of it getting a fair hearing.
Electronically called balls and strikes would be a revolutionary improvement for baseball. No more variable calls by individual umpires, for some hitters, for some pitchers, for some situations, affected by the last judgement call, yada yada.
It would drastically improve the integrity of the game and improve the quality and speed of the game.

One hundred percent yes. Pitchf/x has got to the point it is feasible. At the very least, I'd like to see an electronic appeal process like tennis.

We took a coworker in town from India to a game before and we were having to explain the rules to him. You don't realize how bizarre a lot of it is until you think about and verbalize stuff like foul balls are strikes but not strikeouts unless someone catches it (but catchers can catch foul tips on strike 2 and you're out, but not out before then). Things like tags and forceouts that make no sense. Rules about the pitching rubber, tagging up, infield fly rules, etc. Hitting itself involves a lot of luck.
I love baseball but it's a ridiculous sport. Part of the culture/drama/fun involves the umpire. Trying to "improve" it with technology removing the human element seems to miss the point.
Edit: why was this thread anchored? Makes no sense.

If we can eliminate umps/officials with technology in modern sports then we definitely should do it. Nobody shows up to see the official. They are only part of the game bc they were necessary at the time. If they can be replaced with a truly unbiased robot then they should be.
