You should have told her that people from baton rouge aren't coonasses...and that even if they were, a womans opinion on the subject doesn't matter to you. That would have REALLY pissed her off.

I eat dinner at the Ragusa's and they always have a whop salad and we've called him Dago since we were 5.

People getting offended over these things are dumbasses. I hate a sensitive prick and just asked the wetback Jesus what he thought. He didn't give a shite.

The only way I might be offended if someone calls me "coonass" is if I am around some northerner who gets angry and yells at me in a violent way "I will frick you up you stupid coonass".. then we have a problem.. Other than that.. I would, in no way, find this offensive.

Sorry you missed the subtle joke and I hope you're not too offended. It was said tounge in cheek as I am not a true coonass having both my grandmothers been born in Chicago.

If she is Acadian, I would pay money to see her Cajun face when she hears this response.

The first word that would come out of her mouth is "Mais!" then "You damn right I'm a coonass, me!"

If you're from South LA it's ok and a normal term.

Nah, that's too simple. The best way to describe it is to put a pin in the map where Ville Platte is and go at a 45 degree angle south on either side of the pin, and that is Cajun country. Ville Platte is the northernmost point of Cajun country.

When it died he replaced it with one named Whop.

According to Merriam-Webster its first known use was in the United States in 1908.[2] The dictionary is unambiguous that it originates from a southern Italian dialect term guappo, meaning thug, derived from the Spanish term guapo, meaning handsome, via dialectical French, meaning ruffian or pimp.[3] It also has roots in the Latin vappa, meaning wine gone flat.[2]

A false etymology sometimes promulgated is that "wop" is an acronym that comes from "without passport"[4][5] or "without papers."[5][6] The term has nothing to do with immigration documents which were not required by US immigration officers until 1918, long after the term came into use in the United States.

I've never been offended by that one either. Don't call me a Guinea though.

Pretty much. But you have to section off the alluvial flood plain in the Northeast part of the state. The Delta. That area is comprised of proper Southern gentleman, scholars, planters and such. Not piney woods rednecks. It is by far the best part of the entire stare.

My Italian friends in New York and New Jersey like calling each other that. Most Italians I ask in Louisiana have no idea what it means.

The word coonass is not offensive to coonasses. In fact, most of them take pride in it. The only people who get offended are people who live life to be offended by people.

I would've laughed that she thought she was a coonass being from BR and then told her to STFU. If she was a coonass lady, she would've known not to interrupt you
