Burger debate: BBQ grill or stove top iron skillet

I've always done my burgers outside on the grill. But I read a feature in WSJ's weekend section where these chefs said burgers were better in an iron skillet because you can get it hotter (500) and cook faster keeping in more juiciness.
Thoughts?

They also said something about the skillet giving the meat a 'crust' but I'm not sure what they mean since I've never done it.

Griddle.
Nothing else is the same after you cook them on a griddle.

So, what's the difference between a griddle and a skillet?

well, I have a 4 burner stand alone griddle. the difference for me is how you can cook all the burgers in their juices so well.
another nice trick is using a metal bowl to cover and steam the burger at the end. it's the perfect way to melt a giant pile of shredded cheese

I don't think there's much difference between skillet and griddle burgers. I use a stand-alone griddle because I can do more at once. I like to do two ~1/4 pound patties + grilled buttered buns at the same time. And doing this for more than one burger at a time, the griddle just gives me more space than my largest skillet.
ETA: Between grilled and flat top, I prefer the diner style burgers at places like Company Burger and Camellia Grill. Smaller patties that can be cooked without much regard to temperature. Grilled burgers I like to be thicker and cooked to a medium-rare or medium. Grilled also gives you that distinctive "grilled taste." So for me they're two totally different burgers that I crave at different times.

I much prefer flat top burgers to grilled burgers.

I enjoy both preparations. When I grill burgers I build a super hot charcoal fire and sear them on each side, then move to cooler part of the grill to finish. Also occasionally throw some smoking pellets in and close the lid for a couple of mins.

I like both. Just depends on my mood. Think I like a skillet burger a bit more. High heat gets that good crust. Sometimes, there's good bit of smoke and splatter, so be prepared. If you can get the skillet or griddle good and hot on your grill, you can make the skillet burger on that.

I prefer the stove top method. I actually made one for lunch today and just used a standard non-stick frying pan. It had a nice crust on both sides, and like others have said, I added cheese at the end and covered with a lid.

Set your bun on top of the burger too and then cover and let the bun steam a bit. Good stuff.

Grill with charcoal and some pecan chunks.

To me there is nothing better than an outdoor chargrilled burger. You can't replicate that flavor.

Depends on the make up of the burger for me. There are some nice Angus parties that work well in a pinch for the kids and all of their buddies, straight from the freezer to the grill.
Homemade mix, nice fat content, give me a griddle & Stainless bowl or a skillet. Key is the gradou (sp?) adding to the flavor...
