I like the theory that James Bond is the persona given to the 007 Agent. As there are nine available 00 agents, each one is given a cover identity designed for a certain task.
This explains how the person keeps changing throughout the years (death/retire/change of positions) and each iteration brings it's own unique spin on the position. It also explains the leaps in technology, and why the hell a spy tells everyone and their mother his name.
If you want to go super off the deep end, you can even assume Sean Connery is an-ex James Bond in the Rock.

If they are searching for the next James Bond, and the perfect audition is a black guy, then the next James Bond needs to be black.

Are you assuming that he would make it similar to one of his spaghetti westerns? I really don't think he would do that. The guy is a film historian so I think he would have an idea of how to do something outside of his genre of original screenplays. He has source material when it comes to Casino Royale.
And to be honest, a Bond with an Indian wouldn't be a bad thing. The connection to the British empire with India would work. I don't know how that would sell globally though, the same reason it would be difficult to use a black Bond. Would 2 Billion people in Asia be willing to go watch them?
I didn't think Idris would be a good choice when they suggested him. Others will come along
Also in regards to blacks 'blending' with the Chinese. If it was operations in an underground syndicate. They would in theory be hoping for economic chaos in the west and show willingness to form partnership with middle easterns or Africans involved in shady dealings

Why do you want something that isn't a black character, written as it is, pallette swapped? It's patronizing and insulting.
Isn't cultural appropriation one of the big no-nos these days? Why aren't black spies good enough in their own right?

But since Ian Fleming is long since dead and all Hollywood seems to be able to do is recycle and tweak the novels to the point now...
Where the movie story sucks so bad they have to action it up to over the top to fill screen time.

Plus, there's a reason Tarantino makes films the way he does and that b/c it's what he want's to do. Seriously doubt he'd stick to norm on any of it.
If it were me funding another Bond film he'd be about 25th on the list personally.

I don't think it's overthinking. The origin of James Bond was about espionage with action mixed in. There isn't any secret anymore. it's a guy blowing everything up. Which is what the masses want to see so what can you do
