My opinion is that if he had a more developed outside shot he would have carried the team a lot further.

Ironically you mention two players who didn't have a jump shot when they entered the NBA and had a ton of help in college and the pros.
They also had a competitive streak that was out of this world. Simmons hasnt shown anything close to their desire to be great. Nobody's questioning his talent.

not true at all for Jordan. Hell, remember he hit the game-winning 18-footer in the NC game as a freshman (I was in the Superdome for that, by the way).
As for Ben, he literally has NO jump shot. None. As in, he won't ever shoot one and is literally ZERO threat to score outside 6 feet. Jordan in college sure as hell wasn't like that and, although I remember Magic's college years and think he wasn't a great outside shooter in college, but I believe he was at least a credible threat. Ben isn't at all.

It's partially true for Jordan. You have to remember that he played for 3 years in college too. He was a vertical player early on in his career and worked his arse off to extend it. I'm not going to say he didn't have some mid range game, but his game, early on, was completely centered around getting to the rim. Jordan's development of his medium and long game is the reason he got even better despite slowing down a bit with age. His % actually dropped from 91-93 because he was taking so many more mid rangers and 3s
Ben will have to work on it, but he'll develop an adequate mid range

pretty much every NBA team I see has a 6-9 6-10 guy who can handle the ball and shoot 3's

Name the ones who can handle the ball better than Ben. That's what you said, list them.
There MAY be 3-5 in the entire NBA that are considered bigs at this point
A stretch 4 is a huge asset to have, and that's not really taking into account driving ability
Anthony Davis has an outstanding handle for his size and position. He cannot handle the ball better than Simmons. It's not even close either, yet he's considered elite in that ability for his position.

Basketball - another sport some LSU fans have no clue about.

So did Ben Simmons live up to the hype?
Any player that is a Top 3 lock for the NBA draft has lived up to the hype from a personal standpoint. I have never been a top 3 NBA draft choice...I imagine it takes a lot of work to get there.
It is easy to get wrapped up in the frustrations of how this season turned out but it is more LSU's fault for blowing an opportunity to revive a dying program.
What has LSU done to put itself on the Men's Basketball scene?John Brady's post 2006 run? Trent Johnson? Johnny Jones?
We have not found a way to run a consistent successful program and have failed to adapt to the changing landscape of basketball.

I watched 3 guys from UK participate in the all star drills that looked better than BS handling the ball, Davis, Cousins, and I forgot the other one.
All of those guys can actually play physical inside in the NBA (BS can't)
Durant is another. LeBron of course.
the stretch is BS being able to play inside against a player his size (he has never had to do this) that can guard and defend. For being so great he seemed to get manhandled down low in college...what does that tell you is going to happen in the NBA?
BS is soft. He is basically a 6-10 pg that has no shot and has over exaggerated ball handling skills.

None of them are near BS in ball handling, but they are considered elite for their position

Simmons had zero issues in the post offensively against anyone. He was a dominant college force there when we decided to do it. Defensively is a different story.
But, once again, you're comparing a 19 year old to NBA all stars.

He doesn't even fit your own pre determined criteria.

Durant is waaaay more of a finesse guy.

It's ridiculous. I'm keep hearing about these dominant big men like it is the 80s and 90s.
Simmons is going to be bigger, stronger, faster, and more explosive than 99% of the NBA bigs. These amazing big men don't exist outside of Anthony Davis, Cousins, and Griffin

no I was talking about the 3 from UK.

He had shots thrown back in his face a number of times. Posting him up was a rarity...I don't think he wants to post up.

well we both were right?

I admit my response wasn't clear. I know that. I was listing big men that could handle the ball.

Who are these 4s inside who are the size of Ben?
You're absolutely insane if you think AD has near Ben's handle, and AD has elite big man handles. They aren't even close in that regard.

So far we have a list of Kevin Durant that can handle the ball as good or better than Simmons and are over 6'9
And he's really a 3.

What games did you watch? He posted up all the time. Also, when did all these shots getting thrown back in his face occur?
Posted on 3/7/16 at 11:12 am to KingofthePoint
I can think of 2 shots of his that were blocked all year. It happens to everyone. Hell, it happened to Lebron against a HS kid
