Same players, new coach, new system, same terrible defense, same PTAO BS.
Out - Gordon, Ryno and filler
In - A lead or combo guard to start next to Jrue and a 2 way big that skews towards defense
If you can trade Tyreke do it, if not make him the 6th man you originally signed him to be. He just isn't capable of playing the lead role we're asking him to play. Same with Asik, if you can move him great, but that's probably next year's problem.
Targets for guard: Dennis Schroeder, Ty Lawson, Ricky Rubio, Darren Collison
Targets for big: John Henson, Terrence Jones, Taj Gibson, Joakim Noah,
BTW, I'm still for Clean Slate 2017, but I don't think there's a chance the team goes that direction, so if they're staying the course this is where they need to go.

Agreed. Major changes needed.

Get someone who can guard, slow down the offense and add some discipline and we might be okay

Full court press for Cal?

Skiles is just what the team needed.

how thick is tyreke's skull that he doesn't understand the offense stops when he holds the ball like he does? everyone stops moving. it has to be so demoralizing to be AD and that dude is dribbling till there's less than 7 seconds on the shot clock then forcing a shite pass that leads to a shite shot or jacking up a 18 foot brick.
i hope gentry sits him next game and starts Jrue.

There are a lot of things that would help this team. Most of them are small changes that don't require personnel changes. From which a solid base can be established to then make an actual decision about what this team can or can't actually achieve.

It's all on coaching. with Monty we are a top 6 team in the west

Gordon isn't good enough on defense, and frankly hasn't been good enough on offense far too often this year. Tyreke gonna Tyrec. Therefore we very much do need a different starting guard next to Jrue. If we get an athletic rim protector that might make Ryno workable, BUT between those guys costing about $10 million, Ryno getting a raise to $15ish and having Asik and Ajinca clogging up the cap, that's a tricky place to get to.

Hmm sounds like a small adjustment in scheme related to Gordon, including using him as more than just a jump shooter. hazing our friend Tyreke until he figures out where to be and what shots not to take. I agree on ryno and I agree on trying to move Tyreke. But we can make some changes that will at least make changes. It's like a computer with a programming issue, you can change out as many parts as you want, but at the end of the day if you don't fix the programming issue, it's not going to get any better.

This is the worst defensive team I've seen in a long time. Defensive rotations suck. No one ever helps when the ball goes down low. Wide open 3's. Undisciplined on ball fakes that lead to uncontested lanes to the rim.
I mean I like how Gentry gets pissed on the bench, but him getting pissed isn't translating to better defense.

I've defended EG for a while, but who he is currently is a shell of his LAC-self. He is a solid shooter and tries hard defense, which makes it hard to hate him, but he's just not there athletically anymore. He is more often than not a step too slow and should be only a contributor for 20-25 MPG, not the 30-35MPG we give him.
We saw it last year, but we had QPON to help on defense so it was not as apparent. I just don't like how this team is built. It is too dependent on health and unfortunately we are horrid at keeping guys alive.
You gotta rebuild with Jrue, QPon, and AD as your main 3. I would only keep EG if you were to use him as a special niche player for 20-25MPG and find another quality SG.

He was ok driving and dumping to Asik last year, but outside of that what else do you want him to do? He can't finish or get a foul call, and the more dribbles he takes the less likely it is that he'll make the shot. Catch and shoot is the main thing he's good at. I suppose we could run him through screens and free him up for mid range shots, but 3 > long 2 and he gets enough open 3s that it's not like he's lacking opportunity, he just isn't knocking shots down at the same rate he did last year.

Monty benching Tyreke did seem to have a temporary effect on him, but the problem with Tyreke is you're asking him to be something he's not. Let him be the 6th man where he can just attack, attack, attack, or trade him for something else. Honestly I'm not sure Gentry wants even the bench unit playing a different style. It's a shame Philly was willing to overpay for Ish. You had to take that deal, but it'd be nice to have him still.

Erman's past success building defenses have come in 2 places that had multiple top shelf perimeter defenders. The Pels are starting Tyreke, Eric Gordon and Gee. Tyreke has off ball focus issues, Gordon gets destroyed if he switches onto bigger players, and Gee can only guard one man at a time. Once Pondexter comes back you could have a pretty stout defensive starting 5 with Jrue/QPon/Gee/AD/Asik, but if that's what you roll with, what do you do with Gordon/Ryno/Tyreke? They become underutilized assets, 2 of which are expiring and possibly aren't in your future plans because of the salary they'll command. That defensive starting 5 I listed is also lacking in shot creators outside of Holiday, which goes back to my original contention that we need to turn Gordon and Ryno into more balanced, 2 way players at their positions.

Getting rid of gordon and ryno while acquiring any combo of these players doesn't make us into a much better team.

It feels strange to criticize an offense that is just outside of the top 10, but I imagine some of the problems with how we run offense manifest in our putrid defense.
I don't fault Gentry's system--instead, I look at a team full of players incapable of making split-second decisions. You can pretty much go down the roster and find that there aren't a lot of players who are quick to recognize a defense overplaying something. Some players make this recognition look effortless; most of ours make it look like the opposite. They're 2-3 seconds slow on everything. Add 3-5 non threats on offense to a low IQ team and this is what it looks like. I am honestly amazed that our offense has been this efficient so far.
I like many of the options that you named, but not a huge fan of Lawson. Maybe his dribble-driving is what we need to have a healthier flow to our offense, but given his character issues and defense (unless something has changed that I don't know about), I think he's a poor fit.

No those trades don't make the team much more talented, nothing short of winning the lottery would probably do that, but I do think it balances out the roster some which makes the roster fit what the team is trying to do, so they would be better.
Gordon is not shooting like he was last year, so he should be easily replaced or rather improved upon by QPon when he returns. So I don't see how trading Gordon does anything but help the team if you get a good return for him.
Ryno will be hard to replace, which is why he's also our most valuable trade piece. And if you can find a way to move Asik, several of the bigs on the target list may be good enough on defense to cover for Ryno and make him a viable long term piece. But the bottom line remains the same. We have to give fewer minutes to bad defenders and ball stoppers.
