im cool with that as long as they fire vitt and johnson. really they should clean house on defense if payton stays and let a dc pick his own staff.

I'd be for it because frick Atlanta, also he's a competent defensive Coach. And has experience developing dlineman and linebackers.

Plus, Imagine how funny it would be to beat them at the end of the year at home to ruin their season with Mike Smith on the staff.

Why would anyone melt down?

He's a good coach.

Because he coached the Falcons?

Who cares if he helps us.

Won't happen. These are Payton's bros so they're not going anywhere.

You can keep vitt as assistant head coach and get another lb coach.

I'm going to try to walk a line here and not say too much. I have a long-standing family relationship with Mike Smith. He actually mentored me when I was interested in taking the next step at Linebacker. My opinion of him as a coach and a human being could not be higher.

With that being said, I do not expect him to coach again in the NFL for many reasons that do not belong on a message board. People saying he is a terrible coach have no f-ing clue what they are talking about. If they are naive enough to think he hasn't already turned down DC jobs in the NFL already, they are kidding themselves.

As far as the Saints are concerned, I personally would like to see us take a look at the NCAA for coaching talent.

I don't think there is any doubt he is a good coach. He did what he could, with honestly, not alot of talent on D and Oline. He was a rival coach, therefore, rival team's fans are gonna poke at him.

I only hate one sports team and that's the Falcons.

Mike Smith is no longer a Falcon.

The epic melt would be on the Falcons board if Mike Smith were hired and he turned the Saints D into a formidable unit.

That said, he's a good coach and I would be happy with his hire to try and shore up our D. I would hope any new DC that comes in would get full reign to add his people to the staff

Of course.

He's gonna want his own assistants (I know Vicodin Vitt stays forever), but I'd be glad to have him.
