The point of having a "mansion" is that you can do most things right there at the house. Cook outside, party with friends and family, take a swim in the cement pond, play with your dogs and other animals, garden, etc.
You can't do those things at an apartment building?

Of course, but prices would normalize really fast if places like San Fran dropped most of its housing restrictions. This is a government created problem.

how much would it be to SF hotel for an extended time? Surely they could cut you a deal.

I'm going in a couple weeks and hotels are in the $600 a night range. Don't know how much they'd knock off with an extended stay

This just goes to show you how different people can be.
Give me a huge house 100 miles from civilization and I'm sound as a pound.

City dwellers amaze me. As if getting up and trudging to the coffee shop is an adventure.
Meh, I prefer to be able to go out my front door and walk to bars, restaurants, parks, grocery stores, etc...
I walk to a bar and not worry about having to have a DD to get home, I can just walk home.
If I lived 45 minutes from the city I wouldn't be able to enjoy happy hours, spontaneous trips to a brewery, or live music, because of the driving situation.

frick overpaying to live in dysfunction.

That is just insane I could never live in something that small.

Two beds though - can split rent with a roommate

A couple friends of mine were there for the month of August, it was 3.5k.

Yep, 3K/month is the principal and interest on 600K loan. Back off that a litte for taxes and insurance and you are looking at a $500,000 home with a reasonable down payment.

The extended stay near my house is up to 3500 a month and I live in the east bay.
It's not a government created problem either. It's a supply and demand problem and a lack of land space for new builds can't be blamed on liberals or conservatives. Also free market capitalism created the latest boom which further pushed rent prices. If you don't live here don't pretend to have an understanding of housing because you watch Fox News 2 hours a day.

I could be miss informed but isn't there a lot of laws against tearing down old buildings those creating the land issue?

They tore down candlestick for condos....I don't think historic landmarks are even stopping new construction. It's just not enough. There are too many good jobs and no where for people to live.

White people's problems.

bullshite. Green space restrictions, zoning policies have ALL led to this. New York is just as rich, way more dense and has lower housing cost. It is much more of a true supply and demand working there. Supply is heavily restricted in San Francisco - it's affecting the entire bay area.
