They don't call it the People's Republic of Northern California for nothing. I don't know what all the hand wringing is about.

Most if not all of the tech giants and those making policy in the PRNC are aligned with regard to political ideology.

It's a sanctuary city for people that have broken the law and at the same time intolerant of those that wish to exercise rights under the 2nd Amendment.

Any claim that housing prices and cost of living there are not linked to a common band of fools responsible for such backwards priorities and the harboring of criminals is a claim made by another fool.

Yep. There is rent control there as well. We are at the mercy of our land lords but so far they have been more than fair. The weather here is nicer than Hoboken I bet too. Either way it is an odd feeling to feel poor even when you make 6 figures. Strange as hell.

San Francisco is the only city I've ever been to where I've seen an adult taking a shite on the sidewalk in the middle of the damn day.

It's got some nice parts of the city but I damn sure don't want to ever live there.

There are legitimate reasons why some places are expensive and desirable to live and others aren't. I can feel your pain a bit, the cost of living here is expensive as heck. But, I wouldn't take a larger house somewhere else. My note where I am now is $1900, and it's an average home, nothing fancy about it.

I'm content to have a bit less and live where I choose. The quality of life isn't contingent on keeping up with the wealthier folks.

Point well made. I do like the lifestyle here considerably more than where we moved from. Once it reaches a point of misery due to lack of affordability, I always have the option to leave. As far as our homeless population defecating in the street....that happens in NOLA too. I lived in the quarter on Burgundy and that was the nastiest I have ever seen a city street. SF is what you make of it...

holy mackerel.

I just went to craigslist SF bay, then to SF, to see what's what.

The prices are ASTONISHING. But you can do way better than that teeny place for $3K. The first one (link below) is $2,595 and its a normal looking one bedroom. Still, that's a lot for a one bedroom.

The point of having a "mansion" is that you can do most things right there at the house. Cook outside, party with friends and family, take a swim in the cement pond, play with your dogs and other animals, garden, etc.

City dwellers amaze me. As if getting up and trudging to the coffee shop is an adventure.

And all that crap gets boring after what a month? Sorry I want human contact

Most people, regardless of where they live, have human contact.

I would love to live in San Francisco, but I just wouldn't be able to justify the cost of living there. It is truly a great city though.

I only live here because I can't make as much money anywhere else in the world. But it does have a lot of great things-perfect weather, lots of pro sports, activities for every life style imaginable, close to the water and close enough to snowboarding. I am just bitter I didn't buy a house here in 2009 when I had the chance. I was new to the area, naive, and really just an idiot.

What? So you can fight with the guy sitting in front of you who is yelling a conversation into this cell phone?
No thanks.

And let's leave aside for now the big-city crime waves.

Who made that stupid rule?

Generally people find a way to socialize, whether rural or urban. They meet their need.

I live in an apartment in a city after living in a 3-bed, 2-bath house by myself in BR. I definitely miss having a lot of room at times, but the advantages of things to do in a bigger city way outweighs that.

That being said, I've yet to pay $3k for a place. Although I did have a 1-bedroom for $2,700 at one point.

The same way people find a way to have their privacy Rural or Urban.

I need new faces, new interactions. Not sure how any person that's confident and ambitious could want to live in a rural town

When people settle down and have a family, it's time to find some space. Your 20's are good for urban dwelling. Most folks settle down in their 30's.
