In that price range I'd look for an almost new Breitling.

It's all a matter of opinion yo. I think used omega speedmasters and sinn watches can be found well within that range. As of right now those would probably be the two I would look at buying the most if I was looking to buy right now.

Classy? Sporty? Diver? Pilot?

What you looking for? Plenty to fit the bill in so many different styles.

There better be a secret compartment storing the other $2800 in cash.

Why bother for 3k? If you want an actual good watch 5k is the minimum.

You'll be lucky to get an ironman with that budget.

Can be had for just under 3k. It's a great everyday watch that can be dressed up with the right band.

I'd suggest a Grand Seiko hi-beat or Spring-Drive but you will need to double your budget.

You can get a Sieko that looks nice and will last forever for under $300.

There's nothing wrong with paying thousands of dollars for a watch if you want a status symbol or just a nice piece of jewelry from a classic, well known and revered brand. Rolex, Omega, and the like are all great timepieces. But it's asinine think you HAVE to spend over $1000 for a "quality" watch

I got a Casio with a leather band for $150 ten years ago. Still going strong.

Speedmaster would be a good choice. I really want one of the 45th anniversary Apollo 11 editions but I'd probably never buy it.

Not sure if either will appeal to you, but I'll probably get one of these two as my next:

Oris Big Crown Pro Pilot (way under your price, about 1k)

Tudor Heritage Ranger (about 2400)
