Simple
Take it to an authorized Rolex dealer and ask for an appraisal

"Hey honey, should I just try to sell it now? Or should I wait until after you lose your father?"

Wait, so you got gifted a Rolex (hell, any nice watch for that matter) from your father in law, and you're going to just sell it?

You are the epitome of a piece of shite.

Yeah, that's a shitty thing to do. He definitely won't be winning son in law of the year award. His father in law gave it to him, probably thinking he'll pass it on to his son. Not sell it to go buy speakers and rims for his car. The OP has to be really young to be this douchey about a watch like that.

Well just between the two of us, you might want to wait until he dies to consider selling it. I don't know your family dynamics, but you might want to run it by your wife as well.

If he wanted you to sell it, he would have just given you cash.

Keep it. Great heirloom.

I plan on purchasing a Sub at some point and will pass it down in hopes that it doesn't get sold.

Don't ever sell the watch, it's a gift

If you ever get in a $$$ bind, that'd be a different story. Just be thankful for getting something nice

I agree completely. I was just giving him the practical advice that if he was going to be an ingrate, he should at least have to common sense to not throw it in the guy's face. Believe me, he's going to ask about that watch at some point if he never sees the OP wearing it, and he probably won't be happy to learn that a son-in-law that he thought enough of to give $7500 timepiece is that unappreciative.

He must not have any sons.

Your FIL gave this to you as part of your inheritance and he is still alive? If you're planning on selling this then you're dumber than most Bama fans. Find another way to fund your Bear/Saban thigh tat.

Hopefully the watch sale goes towards Upgrades on his Trailer.

Talk about TPT. (Trailer park Trash)

rolex knock offs are easy to identify.

It used to be that they "tick", but now most fake Rolexes are mechanical. Use the same clasp and all.

The biggest tell tale is that many fakes have a glass backing, and rolex never uses a clear backing.

Yeah, there are tons of knock off watches that are mechanical. My dad has a cheap Rolexx knock off he got in NYC. It's got a mechanical movement, but loses time if it's off of you wrist for more that like 2 hours. You can tell it's cheap compared to a decent $400 auto movement watch.

No

Dude, I would lose my mind if I gave you a watch and the first thing you think is "How much money can I get for this". Not only would I take my shite back, but I would ban you from my house for being a cock.

Well apparently he doesn't "where" watches [sic], so his father-in-law should totally understand. It's not as though he could have been upfront and said, "Phil, I really appreciate the gesture, but you should give this to someone who would appreciate a fine timepiece--like pretty much any grown man".
