Basketball coach in the college game today? I know you can argue Coach K, and that Izzo doesn't have but one title, but dang he does good in March.

He is the best at getting deep runs with decent teams.

Calipari is, and I hate saying that. A big part of coaching is the ability to recruit and no one does that better than Cal.

He's the best march coach, but not the best regular season coach. What's more amazing is that this is the most untalented team izzo has ever had.

No. Izzo is a pro at underperforming during the regular season. Then he figures his shite out around the tournament, and his team is always way stronger than the seed indicates.

Best X's and O's coach. He's one of those "does more with less" coaches but there are probably 2-3 guys who can coach and are great recruiters that I'd take over him.

Uhm, he's a REALLY good coach and good at getting his team to succeed even when it isn't as talented as most years.

Idk if you can call him the best, though it depends on what you're looking for. Is Saban the best coach? He's successful as all hell, but I highly doubt he's actually the best coach in college.

If he could recruit better, it would be correct.

You have a good point.

The other "great" coaches have players with a higher level of talent as far as future NBA stars and such. CTI seems to take tough guys who have some size, skill, and basketball IQ and really finds a way to get the maximum out of them.

In terms of in-game coaching, I'd say absolutely.

But there's more to coaching than doing it in-game, so I would say no.

However, he's a top four coach in college basketball.

Krzyzewski
Calipari
Self
Izzo

I think Donovan at Florida could be thrown in that group, as well. Those are the top five, in whatever order.

No.
Cal > Izzo

Edit: Cal has beaten a higher seed 6x and only lost to a lower seed once (#2 West Virginia). Izzo has now beaten a higher seed 8x but has 7 losses to lower seeds.

Izzo is the Joe Gibbs of college basketball. Nobody does more with less year in and year out. I just wish he recruited better. The only team he's ever had with significant talent was his 2001 team with Jason Richardson, Zach Randolph and Charlie Bell.

i think he is my favorite coach, i love how he has built that program. they aren't kentucky or duke or carolina but they are in the tournament every year and always a tough out.

he gets guys to come in and buy in, they stay 3-5 years and gel into a team. i was hoping that 05/06 LSU team could pull a flintstones
