Gonna be taking a 9-day vacation to Hawaii in the late summer.

I know they don't like howlies over there and I've always operated on the principle of "I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it."

That being said, anything I should know about flying with one and more specifically, any laws of Hawaii I should know about.

Obviously unloaded and placed in my stowaway luggage, but do I need to declare it to TSA when I check in?

You don't want to bring it to Hawaii, baw. They have some pretty strict gun laws there... I know it's against the law to carry a loaded weapon in a vehicle.

quote:

Non-residents may transport a firearm to the state and requires registration at a police station within 72 hours of arrival. Current law requires fingerprinting and photograph. A permit is provided for each firearm make/model/serial number. Subsequent registration of other firearms do not require the fingerprinting and photograph (nor the fee). The current first time fingerprinting fee is $16.50 (May 2014)and is only payable in money order or cash with exact change. Once registered the permit is valid statewide in all counties.

You really want to spend a part of your vacation waiting around at the police station?

it will need to be in an approved lockable case and it will need to declared when you check your bag.

but first you need to check the laws to see if it is even legal for you to a have a pistol on your person while in Hawaii...

I would check the airline you are traveling for specific rules on traveling with gun. They differ.

Conceal carry permit?

Check Hawaii gun laws.

Some states have weird laws. For instance, in Alabama when driving with a handgun the magazine must be in different compartment of vehicle seperate from the gun.

Last thing id want on a vacation is to be arrested for gun crime

To Florida yes. But you're flying to Hawaii? Leave that shite at home or you won't be returning anytime soon.

Make sure it's unloaded and it should be fine in a carry-on. Don't bring it up, but if they ask then you should mention it. And I can't stress enough, make sure it's UNLOADED all the way. Not one bullet, not two bullets, ZERO bullets in it.

Don't bring a fricking gun on your Hawaiian vacation. The worst that will happen is some petty thieves will steal shite out of your rental Mustang. Just don't leave valuable shite on the seats. You're not going to get into a Reservoir Dogs situation, as hard as that idea may make your little penis.

Not sure where you got the idea that Hawaii is some gangland.

I know an FBI agent who checks his service weapon with his bags when he goes on backpacking trips. He has to arrive at the airport about 2 hours before anyone else due to the paperwork hassle involved.

You aren't going to need a gun in Hawaii.

It's kind of like New Orleans... Mostly local on local crime.

My Godparents live there and their kids got razzed a little in high school - but not bullied by any means.

I've been several times and nobody's going to frick with you.

ETA:

^^^ What YA said. You'll be fine.

Ive never known anyone ever to need a gun while on vacation in Hawaii, my SIL vacations there annually and laughed at the notion that you might need one. If you really feel like you need a gun then you probably shouldn't go at all.

They don't hate white people as bad as you think they do.

I spent 2.5 months there going to local parties, beach get togethers and bonfires. Nobody ever dislikes me and I'm white as white gets.
