What is the cutoff time before the parade? It's obviously between all day and two hours before.

the OT joke is that they don't have to go stake out the median with the commoners. they have reserved bleachers somewhere.

Why? What gives you the right to leave unattended stuff on public property?

Because its Mardi Gras and just about everyone does it. Its been done that way for years and years.

I don't think blocking off an enormous area is ok, but marking off a spot for your family and maybe a couple of other families isn't so bad that the New Orleans Council has to take it up.

It is become socially acceptable for the most part much like leaving a tailgating tent out the night before has become acceptable. In both situations, as long as you get out there reasonably early the day of the event nobody is going to mess with your stuff. It's when you show up right before the event when people get pissed.

I'm sorry that the only parades you've been to are Houma and Denham Springs.

Walk up and down Magazine, Napoleon, and St. Charles right now and let me know how much trash you see. It's not that bad. I would say less trash than a LSU game.

And yes, it sucks that it kind of gets to be a who you know deal to get in town with a goods spot or your arse has to be there a day in advance at times.
I have invites on St. Charles, Magazine, and Canal so I'm set because of friends who own businesses and such.

Some people are assholes with how they reserve spots and how much real estate they take up and hopefully they get dealt with properly.

2) If you go out there a day before, rope off or otherwise leave a bunch of stuff out there, and don't stay with it, only to show up 2 hours before he parade, I should be able to walk up before hand and throw it all in the street.

I feel the same way. The only parade I would even consider going to is the Spanish Town parade in the BR.

here's an easy solution. Don't go to parades. I've never udnerstood the menatality of Mardi Gras parade people. especially the ones who start world war 3 with everyone around them just to catch plastic beads that cost $2 a box at the store. so dumb.
Ryno, you and Scruffy are on the same page here.

He doesn't get it either.

Parades are for kids to enjoy. All those beads just end up in a bag in the back of your closet.

Reluctantly did this tonight (wife and kids wanted to go to parade), first two parades Babylon and Chaos were not so bad, but as soon as Muses started the degenerates from who knows where started claiming their chairs from Academy sporting goods, drunks came out in full force and and the marijuana could be smelt. A billion times trashier then an LSU game.

I have two kids. Trust me, the parades are for them. If it was just me, I'd be out of town for a few days.

So it's annoying when a bunch of adults put stuff out there and then show up an hour or 30 min before the parade. Especially when they bring 8 foot ladders for the adults to stand on.

One of the boldest plus I've seen-

Friends set up early and we're cooking up some food for a few hours before. 2 ladders on their side next to their setup claiming a good 12 feet for an MIA stranger. Parade starts so we are just disregarding the ladders and treating it as open space. People come out post Shriners and a couple floats and pick up the ladders and a couple chair and set them on the front edge of the curb right behind a couple of friends while a band was rolling up and yelled at them for moving the ladder back to get out of the way of the band....

Sounds like way too much fun for me. Have yourselves a ball catching cheap-arse beads and trinkets. Shooting/murder thread on here tells me everything I need to know about this yearly circus. Good luck...
