Nique had, I believe, 52 points and 28 boards.

At the game Bird had 60 Nique had 36 points and less than 9 rebounds since Carr led ATL with 9 rebounds.

1984/85 season when Atlanta played a string of games in New Orleans as home games for some reason.

Atlanta couldn't put asses in the seats and New Orleans paid them a lot of money to play some games since the Jazz were gone.

I had forgotten this, but UNO Lakefront Arena had only been completed in 1983, so the stadium was still new then.

One of his greatest shots was when he came down full speed on the right side of the basket & a shot rebounded straight to him. Without breaking stride, his momentum practically leading him out of bounds, he grabbed & shot the ball, left hand, all in one motion & got nothing but the net.

That's one of my favorite highlights ever.

That's one thing I wish would carry over to today's game, the downright near-hate competitiveness!!! You just feel like all the top guys are all friends and are just playing basketball for fun. Lacks some of the old school feel and appeal.

uhhhh excuse me sir, but have you not heard about the fierce runway battle that will take place all star weekend? shite could get heated!

I loved hearing Xavier McDaniel talk about Bird. In one of their games with 3 seconds left in regulation and the game tied, bird told X "I'm getting the ball right here and shooting a 3 in your face". X said "and the son of a bitch did it".

I think he may have actually said "in your FRICKING face"

pretty awesome either way

Chuck Person tells one about playing the Celtics on Christmas day. Chuck had the flu, felt terrible, plus had to guard Bird.

Bird comes down the left side of the court, just inside the arc, then steps back, lets fly, and says to Chuck "Merry fricking Christmas", even before the ball went through the net.

You know why Nique was awesome? And why the NBA was so much better back then? This is why:

quote:

If you expect that Wilkins would carry a bit of bitterness toward Bird and the Celtics after all these years, you don’t know ’Nique. He carries those moments, even the bad ones, as a badge of honor.

“Let me tell you something: I wouldn’t trade that for nothing in the world,” Wilkins said. “You know why? Because those guys like Larry and Doc (Julius Erving) and Bernard (King), they made you a better player.

“You know, if you didn’t have the heart, you got destroyed.”

A lot of the BS drama we hear about today either 1) Didn't exist or 2) it wasn't broadcast through social media and thus the product wasn't tainted by it. Athletes today largely suck.

I think the product on the floor is more polished and athletes are better in the present, and perhaps it's just nostalgia, but I'd take the old NBA any day.

I dislike all pro sports for the most part, but I will still watch a Celtics game occasionally just because how much of a Bird fan I was when the NBA was fun too watch.

Bird was one of the hardest workers of all-time. He could most definitely score, play great defense, could hit game winners, and one of the greatest trash talkers. However, there is one thing that seems to always be over looked when it comes to Bird...he was one of the best passers of all-time as well.

Some of the passes he made, was just incredible.

And Larry Bird was a great player... but damn it if he wasn't the goofiest-looking motherfricker in the history of civilization.

This is what made it worse for players . You got this goofy looking arse dude shooting your eyes and soul out of you and all you can do is hope he got cold. Top 3 shooter of all time.

Dennis Johnson and Robert Parish were funny looking as well. The only normal looking guy in the starting five was Danny Ainge
