Thanks for the great laugh early in the morning. Tremendous perspective too.

If he wasn't going to play baseball in college, where would he have gone and what would have been his major.
LSU is an Agriculture and Mechanical school.

When I was there back in '07 there was talk of ending the petroleum program because there wasn't enough interest. Now, they are talking about losing accreditation because the student to professor ratio is too high. 82:1

Your son will have girls in a 360* circle around his penis. No time for school. Dem cleat chasers, doe...

This definitely won't turn into an engineering fap thread.

what are the best areas of academic studies at LSU?
Pretty much anything but Engineering is big here with all of the regional chem and petro industry. Huge School of Business too but you name it they got it.

Have the LSU coaches inquired about him? What grade is he in?

I'd go into some sort of computer science major and go through the LSU internal audit program, taking as many programing, accounting, finance, and audit electives as I could.
At the least, give this a consideration if your son doesn't care much for his personal interests.

Electircal Enigineering at LSU is good not that great. I have EE degree from LSU.

I went to Mizzou, wrestled for them, and majored in Pre-Med/Zoo. Transferred to LSU (my home state) and did not see a drop off/increase in difficulty or competition. Did my stint in LSU Med and interned in California. Again, was prepared as well as my competition. LSU will prepare him as well as he i willing to work at it was my take away.

STEM, business, or liberal arts?

LSU Athletics gets most of the attention, with the academics very underrated IMHO.
My mechanical engineering degree has served me well. Again. Chem E & Pet E get most of the press, but the College of Engineering overall is pretty good.
There are also on-campus law & vet schools, so with 200+ degree offerings, there is literally something for everybody.
Good luck to your son becoming a Bengal Tiger.

I'm a Construction Management alum. I loved it and do very well now. Had quite a few athletes in the program while I was there.

My coach makes his players start in General Studies. Get the grades up and find a major interest. Plenty of time to decide what the major should be. It is hard enough to play ball and go to college, so let him get adjusted before he hits the subjects that he is weak in. He will have an easier core of subjects to choose from in Gen Studies.

The engineering departments are good, if that's his thing.
I'm an engineer myself, but I've always heard the medical schools are pretty good too. One department I see mentioned often for athletes is the kinesiology department. Apparently LSU has one of the best staffed/run/supported programs in the nation.

Academically, one thing that LSU has to offer that very few other schools can offer is a law school that prepares a student to pass/be admitted to both the La Bar and the Bars of other states. If you're unfamiliar w/La,
our laws are based on a legal system completely different than the other 49. My daughter, a Texas resident/senior undergrad at a Texas school, is specifically choosing LSU law because she wants to stay in Tx, but knows admission to the tx bar and la bar will mAke her more marketable.

LSU's notable programs...
#1 internal auditing program
#1 landscape architecture
#2 petroleum engineering, but all of our engineering programs are top notch. We're about to start on a 100 million dollar renovation of the engineering facility
top tier construction management
great ISDS program
honestly, LSU has an all-around great business school
coastal engineering is excellent
good regional law school
good med school that is going to move into a brand new med school soon
excellent history program
eta: very good MBA program too
for public universities, LSU is 35th in the nation in mid-career salaries, ahead of schools like Ohio State, UNC, and Alabama.
Basically, LSU offers some great programs in high demand fields. He would be just fine as long as he chooses his major wisely

Landscape Architects can make some serious coin
A few years ago, the entire industry collapsed. A friends son graduated with LA degree. The class ahead of him most all lost their jobs and he never found a job. Doing electrical work now
