Rice beat LSU in 1961 or 1962/

Posted by DandyD on 11/12/18 at 6:09 pm
Anyone still alive that saw Rice beat LSU? Was it 61 or 62?
BDP is a nice guy and knows La. He knows all the coaches and their families. Those are the connections that make you a good recruiter....plus money to grab a plane and get there...asap. He was not the best candidate for STs.
Best of luck to Frank. What a great area to live! Hope he gets a staff with experience. HC is a whole new ballgame. So many jobs that you must depend on the staff. It is no easy move. Most smaller programs have no money for the asst coaches.Another very real problem is money to recruit. Having a backer with a plane is the way to make it work. Will be pulling for him.
The job description was STs and half the D line. Don't know what the agreement was with BDP.

Joey Martin has a nice article on Donnie Daye. Dec.30, I think.

ST coach is in the wings.

re: Any DC rumors?

What fun...O for DC. Maybe he will bring home some other home boys.
He only left LSU due to Miles...lacking knowledge. His DC is terrific, Charley Kelly. He coached under Daryl Daye at Nicholls. Awesome!

My coach makes his players start in General Studies. Get the grades up and find a major interest. Plenty of time to decide what the major should be. It is hard enough to play ball and go to college, so let him get adjusted before he hits the subjects that he is weak in. He will have an easier core of subjects to choose from in Gen Studies.

I hear he is a nice guy, but STs made some major boners that cost us games.

Any word on Peveto?
Magee interview....he said it was nice to get some playing time. LOL!
Tech...DC and DB. NwSt ...DC went to ULL. Good coaches.

Anyone hired at La Tech and NwSt??

Posted by DandyD on 1/17/15 at 4:35 pm
Just wondering if there had been any hires.
I thought there was a STs coach that was needed.

re: Available young DC out there

Are there any Tigers who are coaching? Don't know the young ones. But, do we really want that young?

re: Is it possible??

During BDP hiring, they stated that Haley only coached half the line and that BDP would coach the other half. What else did Brick do??
NDak St just beat Sam Houston who was beaten by Jay Thomas' team, NW St. Had a lot of injuries and lost out of the play-offs. Who has a bigger name??? Scoop says A&M has an opening at STs. Will the Chief have an imput?? Will they interview BDP?? Coaching is so interesting.
Jay Thomas is HC. Has been DC at several places. When he was HC at Nicholls his DC was Charley Kelly who is DC at Fl St and was at Ga Tech. I think he knows as much as any of the coaches that you could mention. Plus he is a great guy from La. That should count for something. We are not as BIG TIME as some of you think.

BDP is speaking. It is in Kentucky.

Need a real STs coach, anyway. That's what ruined us.
OK..Miles needs someone he can trust with everything going on to put him out to pasture. LOL! So...he can eat more grass!! BDP has experience calling Ds. Brick in the pressbox and BDP on the field. Hire a real STs guy. Charlie Kelly can do both...DC and STs.
You can bet Les has his man. At this point someone who is loyal is important.
The convention is next week. There will be hundreds of coaches looking to make a change. LSU, Tech and NWST are open at DC. There is no panic.

Coaching Convention

Anyone have the info on the convention? Lots of interviews will go down at the event, no doubt.
Brick could go to NW or Tech. They are looking for a DC.

re: Why are we keeping Peveto???

Charley Kelly and Daryl Daye are both ST coaches and DCs. Kelly DB and Daye DL coaches. They are plenty good. Both have been interviewed by LSU in the past.

re: if brick doesn't get the dc job...

Posted by DandyD on 1/7/15 at 7:38 pm to
He coaches half the DL. What else???

re: LSU running out of options?

NOT....some of you get it. Knowing Miles ...he probably has already hired O. Or has led him to believe that he will be hired, thus O has other teams on a string. Waiting. When he hired BDP...he still interviewed coaches for 6 - 7 hours. Led them on. All the while he had pretty much assured BDP that he had the job. There are several homeboys who he could hire that are plenty good. I think he loves the show.
Some coaches are just HC material, while others are not. From my observation it is not about coaching but dealing with all the other aspects. He may not want to be an assistant, no matter what the pay. Yes, DC at LSU pays far more than a HC in a small school. Does that make them worse coaches? I don't think so.Coaches just have big egos. Got to have that confidence. Learning to be a HC takes a long time. Jimbo Fisher was a fast learn, but I think he made some mistakes with his mouth. Learning to be a DC is hard, too. Getting experience in a smaller school is the way to go.
