NBC is running a Super Bowl ad that makes fun of those who are gluten-free. It implies that we're soft...we're weak...we're part of America's problem. When all we're trying to do is manage our disease. Celiac can be a true pain. The media is not helping and this petition is get NBC to see the light of day.
I think about all of the gluten-free children getting bullied for being "different", when all they want to do is feel better and fit in. I think about all of the people who have gotten sick at restaurants because the kitchen and/or the staff do not take us seriously. I think about all of those walking around undiagnosed and suffering because they only listen to what is in the media. I think about all of the people in the past who have died prematurely when going gluten-free MAY have been their saving grace.
This petition is for them.

They have a cool concept, a funny actor and a huge audience. They could have selected one out of 1,000 things that related to America being “soft” that would have still been humorous. But they chose gluten. Why?
You’d think I’d get used to these things, but each time hits me to the core. But after the Joy Behar calamity last week (which of course followed all of the other calamities our community has had to put up with), I wasn’t sure if I should even approach this ad, for a number of reasons.

well...people really do have Celiac disease
I very, very small percentage, but they do exist, so I would think it would suck for those people to get lumped in with the bullshite "gluten allergy" people

are gluten free activists the same group that boycotts humans with a penis?

I truly, truly don't like the GF people. If someone really has Celiac disease, I have the utmost sympathy for them. It's not a fun disease, and GF food is pretty gross. But, 90% of people on that bandwagon are self-diagnosed, and they're really demeaning the people who have to live with Celiac. My ex boss was one of the idiots. She had a patch of eczema on her arm about the size of a quarter and decided it was from a "gluten intolerance" and went on the diet. So dumb. I guess if something good comes out of this stupid craze is that there are more food options for the people who really need it.

So frickin tired of everybody getting offended by something. I could probably find something every day that offends me, but who the shite would care? Hell, I don't even care. Never seriously considered getting a tattoo but if I did it would be a face tattoo that said, if I offend you, frick you.
This country is being ruled by a bunch of whiners!

As soon as people stop caring so much when other people get offended, alot of people will stop being so easily offended.

So he's whining like a little bitch about being called out for being soft? Lulz

I hate when these people complain about restaurants. Restaurants make their recipes their way. If it doesn't agree with your lifestyle, don't eat there.

quote:Well, you kinda are. Anyone who doesn't have celiac disease yet decides to go "gluten-free" (while at the same time drinking gluten-containing yet hip micro-brews on the daily) is a little soft, weak.
It implies that we're soft...we're weak...we're part of America's problem.
FWIW, I don't think the ad was meant for people with celiac disease.

Most of the "gluten free" zealots don't have celiac disease.

Gluten free pussies =/= people with celiacs. So if I had celiacs, I'd be offended by a commercial making light of a serious condition.
I'd also be offended by the idiots who don't have it, but think gluten free is healthy for you and almost glamorize it

People have forgotten how to laugh at themselves. Everyone takes everything so serious nowadays.

This "allergy" has become pretty popular to have in the last 5 years. IMO, people just want to be different/difficult, have an excuse to shop at whole foods/any whole foods type grocery store, and have something to whine about when restaurants don't cater to their "allergy". But before the last 5 years, it was almost unheard of to go to a restaurant and have a gluten free section of the menu, and those that really have the allergy didn't complain, and cause a media uproar.
Moral of the this - People want to be different so they have something to complain about when others don't carter to their every need.
If this ad does't air due to a couple of pansies put their name on a petition that doesn't mean anything, than that just shows how weak we really are. If those people really have a problem with it, change the damn channel when it starts to air, no one is forcing you to watch it.

I hate victimhood'ism and think the idiots that are bitching need to quit bitching. But in saying that, celiac disease is a real thing and I have sympathy for people with digestive issues they have trouble controlling. I had an ex with celiac and I'll tell you she would be miserable and I've witnessed her stomache swell to the point she looked 8months pregnant and her doubled over in excruciating pain. It isn't pretty and is real. She would eat gluten free but it never was a problem. She didn't talk about it all the time like a crossfitter and when she went into a resturant she could read the menu herself and knew what she could order and what she couldn't. She wasn't one of those that would send special orders to the chef or pester the waitress.
But it's a real thing, it's just many many people give it a bad name.
I was working in a bar/rest around the time it started becoming trendy. I swear It went from someone asking about glutten about once every 2/3 months to having several people everyday asking if a certain dish had glutten or if we could switch the recipe on something to make it a glutten free dish. Was insane.
