People keep saying that but then why was Stoops the one to get the head coaching job? Why was Venables still a co DC with Pelini when Stoops left?
Pardon me if Im wrong but did OUs defense not take a step back circa 2005 when Venables was by himself? Hes done a great job at clemson I do agree with that though.
Just seems like a lot of group think to support the guy that yall want personally rather then look objectively at the data and the moves made by the people in the know.

Mark Stoops has had one good defense since 2003, and that was in 2013. His D then proceeded to regress big time in 2014 despite having much of the same personnel.
Even though he was the HC at Arizona, his D's there weren't very good either.

In all seriousness I think theres better caniditates out there, however if anyone has any objective data saying that the architect of the pre 2004 OU defenses were all Venables and note Mike Stoops Im all ears. Otherwise I will attribute them to the gentleman who was promoted based off their performance and not the guy who remained co captain of the ship with a guy who was a brand new hire to the program.

MIKE Stoops has had a defense ranked in the top 25 one time since 2003, and they were 22nd in 2013.

It's 0% until it's 100%. This is where deals are made or not, the sticking points where the two sides need to meet. Unfortunately we have Alleva, so I have no confidence in him. Hope it gets done though.

I think everyone who has read my posts the last week will tell you I have been one of the few actually looking at the data and going against the grain.
Stoops sucked as a HC. He's not he greatest DC either.
Venables did very well at OU as the sole DC and typically finished 1, 2 or 3 in the league.
