I think CP is still the front runner. But Shoop is there as a fall back so to speak.

Shoop is pretty damn solid and is an up & comer, also has SEC recruiting experience.

Looks like it may not be Clancy, please do not let it be Stoops. LINK

I've learned OU Defensive Coordinator Mike Stoops is scheduled to interview for the same position at LSU with head coach Les Miles. Sources tell me it's expected Stoops will be offered the job when the two meet in Dallas tonight at 6 p.m.Some reports had Clancy Pendergast the favorite to replace Chavis. However, I'm led to believe Miles has targeted Mike Stoops and former Baylor Head Coach Kevin Steele.

We better pray it doesn't happen. Mike Stoops' defenses have never been very good.

Miles is sealing his own tomb if he hires one of those clowns.

Four of his five OU defenses finished seventh or better nationally in scoring defense and in the top 10 for total defense from 1999-03.

So over 10 years ago, when he was a Co-DC he had good defenses. What about since then?

Yeah when he was CO-DC with Venables.

Venables was the brainpower behind that operation.

Can someone post his defensive team ranks every year he has coached? Thanks.

Revamped the Oklahoma defensive scheme in 2013, giving the Sooners more multiple looks. That move paid immediate dividends as OU led the Big 12 in total defense (350.2 ypg) for the first time since 2006. The Sooners also led the Big 12 in pass defense (212.5 ypg).

In total, the Sooners saw marked improvement in 10 major defensive categories in 2013 under Stoops. OU ranked second in the Big 12 in both rushing defense (137.6 ypg) and scoring defense (22.1 ppg) – a decrease of 55.4 ypg and 3.4 ppg compared to 2012.

That rushing defense stat is nothing to write home about. Neither is the passing D if we are being honest. Just shows you how bad the big 12 has been defensively.

So he improved a really shitty D for one season, and then had his D regress the very next year? Great.

The 22.1 PPG is impressive in the Big 12, but the 137.6 Rush YPG is not at all, especially considering most teams in that conference don't have very good running attacks.
