Shooting a 30-06.... whitetail only. Average shot is 100 yds with the longest being around 350.

Used my last nosler partrition 165 gr this past weekend.

Anyone got a favorite? Thinking about 150 gr barnes x...

150 or 165gr remington core lokts.

If you can't kill a deer with those, the problem is you.

I shoot a .270 but had all kinds of trouble with the accubonds. They would never exit the deer so there would be no blood trail and the other negative is that they would blood clot a quarter of the deer leaving alot of meat to throw away. Since then I have switched to Federal Premium ammo gameking boat tailed softpoint and haven't lost a deer or barely have even had one go more than 30 yards with alot less bloodclot.

agree with beHop.

You went from good, to great imo. Both of those bullets will give excellent penetration, the Barnes TSX or TTSX will beat the Nosler on weight retention, but in my book, the Partition was the gold standard until the solid copper bullets started coming out.

Are you going to handload or off the shelf?
Bolt action or semi-auto?

Federal blue box is my go-to for every caliber. I've seen very good results with them in several calibers.

I reload Sierra Game King 165gr. I've had great results in accuracy and dropping deer. I shot one earlier this year and watched him run 20 yards and blood was everywhere. Federal sells this load at just about every store that carries ammo.
The 165gr nosler partition bullet is really for big bodied deer, Mule Deer, elk and up. It'll definitely kill a deer but may be to much for deer less than 200lbs. It really depends on the load/speed of the bullet.

You can't go wrong with Sierra Game King or Remington Core Lockt

i've tried to 'improve' my ammo by looking at more expensive brands/types, but i always go back to CoreLokts. They are just so consistent and shoot straight.

Premium bullets are a waste of money for whitetail deer when using a .30-06.

I changed from a Core-Lokt to Hornady SST's in my 270 this season.

The first deer I shot was at 183 yards broad side and dropped it in its tracks. Double lung shot placement that incinerated the deer's innerds.

The second deer I shot was at 35 yards broad side behind the shoulder shot. She shot up 8' or so like a kangaroo and died when she hit the ground. The front shoulder was mutilated on this shot.

All in all, I have been extremely pleased with this round.

I shoot Barnes TSX for elk, but I don't think there's a better bullet for big game.

Ballistics test of most popular bullets.
