The top reason is their reluctance to change model lineups every 3-5 years like Honda,Nissan,Mazda. Not even going to include domestic because they guarantee a model lineup change like clockwork every 4-5 years.

Sure the dependability of the brand is a good selling point as well but Honda is right there with them on this.

It's nice to buy a Toyota and 7 years down the road still have a vehicle that looks like the brand new models.

These guys know what they're doing

I love the Tacomas and the older 4Runners....the newer 4Runners I'm not so sure about the new body style. My mom has an Avalon and it's really nice.

I agree and if they could make a reliable diesel engine, they would take over the truck market.

Well I don't know about the standard Toyota but if it's like Lexus' the biggest issue I take is a lack in interior updates

I went looking at the lexus' with my dad the other day and some of the interiors look pretty much the same as the interiors from the early to mid 2000's with maybe a slightly nicer GPS

That RC f sport though

I seriously doubt this is why anyone buys a Toyota.

4Runner owner BTW

The old body style of the 4runners and Sequoia was so much better than the newer body styles, IMO.

They literally just changed the look of their Camry's and Corolla's this year drastically.

As far as Transmissions? No

Honda has great engines but Toyota and Nissan have them beat in the tranny.

2008 Tacoma, double cab, TRD OR with the towing package. Too easy to work on and do everything myself. Wouldn't have a POS Colorado or the like.
Great thread

Actually their long model life cycles make them appear dated and thus less appealing. I think the Corolla from 2013 was the same basic body style that they sold 12 years ago. Their enhancements to the 4Runner look terrible, and their least hideous models are older, bland designs.

There's actually not a single Toyota now whose styling appeals to me except for the Land Cruiser, which itself is kind of bland. I like the Tacoma but I am not paying $30,000 for a 10+ year old design...especially when there's a brand new Tundra in the same showroom and new mid sized trucks out from GM.

Looking at the Lexus lineup on their website......why on earth did they think those hideous hour glass grills make them look more attractive? I know the LS is a fantastic vehicle, but they ruined it with that speed racer looking styling.

I think Toyota's design-by committee methods are definitely a weak point of the company.

I bought a Corrolla new in 2013, I love the free service for the first two years, the enormous money I save on gas and the dependability of the car. The perfect vehicle for living in a city.

I have a Highlander with 300k + that purrs. It's been paid off for eight years...

Mrs. Pimp gets the vanity ride. She's a show pony. I'm more of a work horse. A man of the people, as it were.

Completely agree with OP. Toyota is just a superior brand. They'll have hit & miss years with new models, but at least their older models will still look up-to-date.

I'm looking into buying a new-ish 4Runner or say f* it, and get a Tundra.
