Good luck. Been there. I don't need to know all the details if you are certain it is not a relationship you want to be in. Marriage is serious and should be treated as if there is no turning back once the commitment is made. It's not going to go the way you rehearse it no matter what, so be honest.

What an overwhelmingly negative comment. Why stay with someone if it doesn't feel right?

She's probably been fricking somebody else anyway. You will find that out pretty quick.

Don't be so sure you are breaking her heart.

He said this was pretty close to the mark:
quote:

The sex was good, but variety is the spice of life. After ten years OP is looking at the prospect of forever and it cannot be put off any longer. There is a good possibility that OP finds this chick to be his intellectual inferior to such an extent that living together would be painful.

Which makes him a colossally selfish, immmature a-hole that basically used this girl and stole her youth and will now discard her in hopes of finding younger girls who he hopes will let him live out some of the stuff he watches every night on his computer.

Yes, this girl is better off in the long run without such a "man", but what a rotten thing (the ten years followed by pulling the rug out from under her) to do to somebody.

So you want some strange? Understandable but very douchey.

Wow. You are so wrong it's comical.

I'm not doing this because I want to have sex with a bunch of young girls.

So you're not leaving her because you want variety? Not because you think she is intellectually inferior to you?

Because I thought you said the guy who said that was pretty close to right.

You waited 10+ years to marry and you haven't allowed her to move in your apartment. Maybe a "not stand" may be a bit strong, but there is certainly something strongly off about this. There is something you've always known in the back of your mind that you couldn't spend the rest of your life with her, and now you've finally gotten the balls to openly admit it. Hopefully things work out the best for both of you, I really mean it, but what you did by dragging her along for this amount of time is simply shitty.

It's not always easy to see the difference between love and lust. You're doing the right thing by breaking it off now.

So you finally admit it's men that you fancy.

We have grown differently, we see things and have different interests now. The sex was good. I'm not doing this because I want more and better sex. Variety is not always about sex.

I'm not saying that either, I'm just saying she was a great lay that would bow to your every whim, and was either ignorant or stupid enough to go along with it for 10 fricking years. Finally, you either grew balls or a slight inkling of a conscience and knew you had to end it before you before you completely irreversibly fricked up both of your lives.

Well I'm sure that will make her feel better about you using her for so long. If you weren't using her and leading her on, what exactly changed between you getting engaged and now?

For the record, you are right to not marry someone you care so little for, but you have to realize that anybody you know who doesn't already think you're a flake will think so now.

Um, that's what happens. Even in marriage. You think my wife and I still watch the Simpsons or do what we did 12 years ago? But do what you need to do.

And don't think of the last 10 years as a total waste of time and emotion. Let her do that.
