He's believed to be the first publicly gay major division college football player.

Edward "Chip" Sarafin, a backup 320-pound senior offensive lineman for Arizona State University, has come out publicly as gay. He is the only known publicly out player in major college football.
Sarafin told his story to Phoenix-based Compete magazine, a publication for gay sports. The article by Joshua Wyrick focused on Sarafin's educational studies in biomedical engineering with his goal of becoming a neurologist and in his volunteer work. The part of Sarafin being gay is addressed in an oh-my-the-way manner near the end.
He came out to his Sun Devils teammates last spring, saying, "it was really personal for me and it benefited my peace of mind greatly."

I'd like to announce to the MSB that I'm straight.

Dude is real small for an O-lineman, no wonder he's coming out, needs some kind of pub

It's stuff like this that always makes me think it's just another Kardashian-level-generation of attention whoring.
It's not about gay or whatever.
It's just about a generation of total attention whores. If you are under 22...no offense...but you suck shite as a human being. It's not your fault, you were raised in believing everything you did was the greatest thing on the planet.
Nobody gives a crap about this person.
He's not Tebow, Young, Bush or even a starter.
Why is this news? We have crossed the supposed big secret that there might be gay people on sports teams?
This stuff just feels stupid and old.

His name is Chip.
He "comes out" every time he tells someone his name.

Did anyone else see the headlining articles at the bottom of the link?
Oh, and this guy just gave Todd Graham an out to leave for ANOTHER head coaching gig
eta: I am all for civil rights, but it's pretty selfish of him to draw so much media attention and distractions to his team. Seriously, I think it's safe to say that there are plenty of gay athletes in every sporting league.

He'll win a courage award at the ESPYs for being the first non-Missouri gay college football player.

To be fair, their pass protection sucked dick last year.

quote:
There have been other major college football players who have been openly gay on their teams -- Michael Sam was one at Missouri last year -- but if Sarafin ever plays, he would be the first gay player to tell his story to the media while in school. Regardless, Sarafin is a brilliant student and his teammates can say they practiced with a gay athlete.
Wow. What an honor.

Would this guy be considered a "bear" in the gay community?
Posted on 8/13/14 at 9:37 pm to CrimsonFever
Not buying this story. The girls at Arizona State are so hot, they could make any dude straight.

Dude is making sure he gets drafted next season.
Pretty soon, every mediocre CFB player will be gay.
