I've got offers from 3 other lawyers who'll shoot me in the dick for virtually nothing.
Maybe sweeten the deal, and get back to me.

I'm pretty sure I've kinda figured out who you are and if so, I don't think you would have had trouble finding a legal job.
Posted on 7/15/14 at 9:39 am to Scruffy
yeah, you're saying the firm wouldn't hire you?

Another contributing factor is that the Bar is too easy to pass. IIRC, the bar pass rates for the top law schools is near 90%, while lower tier law school pass rates are near 80%.

Didn't say that at all.
Hell, just what I need. More people knowing my secret identity.

your secret is safe
i'm kinda in the same boat. if i didn't have family connections in the legal field i'd never even consider law school. i think my friends with none are kinda crazy.

This country could use about a 90% drop in the lawyer population if you ask me. I'd also like to see a law that prevents lawyers from running for public office aside from DA.
The point I was trying to make is that the jobs haven't gone anywhere. Naturally, when you have more applicants you will have more people that don't get the job. I know, I'm a real John Nash.

Not in louisiana recently.

Scruffy's dad is a lawyer and he told him to never go to law school for this specific reason.

The thing that no one mentioned in this thread is that the baby boomers are about to start dieing off at faster rates. Jobs are going to be opening up within the next 10 years.

I'd still go to law school. Having a law degree even if you don't practice law opens up a lot of doors.

It's the mandatory retirement age policy that many firms are putting in place more so than them dieing off.

you know he was just reading from a script in a movie right
And he was playing The Devil. CCC wasn't calling Al Pacino the person the prince of lies.

The market is correcting itself. With all this doom and gloom and enrollment down, I wouldn't be surprised to see it stabilize and perhaps get better in the not too distant future. The bubble has popped, and if you time it right you'll be buying low.
As someone jokingly mentioned engineering, look at PETE enrollment and tell me that isn't a future potential bubble.
This is normal, jobs get too popular until they aren't, people move to the next one and so on.

This depends on the persons background. Law student with a degree in political science, English, or history is not likely to have many doors open for them outside of a job in the legal field.
Law student with a business background getting their MBA will.

Yes, I did in fact realize that Al Pacino is not literally the devil (ie, the "prince of lies") but was merely playing a role in a movie. Thanks for checking on me though.

quote:This is true. Maybe I am biased, because this is what I have, but I think a CPA is about the most valuable somewhat "easily obtainable"(easy in it doesnt take a bunch of extra schooling, the test sucked) designation someone can get for opening multiple doors. You have the guaranteed public accounting route if you want it, or you can really use it for anything in business. I was pleasantly surprised how many companies love to see a younger person with their CPA
