Any technical degree, but is wouldn't consider that opening doors outside the legal profession.

The numbers are still trending down. The class about to graduate from LSU had about 40-50 more students than the one below it

And the one below that has even less.

I'm banking on the continued trend of lower enrollment numbers and a bunch of baby boomers dying off.

You won't go broke betting that people will die.

The thing that no one mentioned in this thread is that the baby boomers are about to start dieing off at faster rates. Jobs are going to be opening up within the next 10 years.
This. Shortsightedness, ignorance and negligence keeps us real lawyers busy. Keep it up guys...I've still got kids in school.

From what I understand it's starting to affect the schools. Starting to beef up marketing because they can't just sit back and wait for their classes to fill up.

This is especially the case in over-saturated law school markets like the north east and midwest. However, due to Louisiana's unique legal system, this hasn't quite been the case here.

Tulane is THE school for kids from the northeast to go to that can't get into the ivy league so they can party.

LSU continues to push for people not to work as 1L's, which makes it simultaniously less affordable and less attractive. That just leaves the two also-rans, Loyola and Southern which both have night programs and atrocious bar passage rates.

They say you can't work, but it's not hard to get permission from Administration aka Cheny Jo. I worked a campus job my second semester.

It's pretty easy to get approved to work. Plus going to LSU and not working is still probably cheaper than going to Loyola or Tulane with a crappy little part time job

If you can't graduate in the top 25% from a good school, you are basically screwed.

Tough times to be investing in law school.

Med schools have the system figured out. They put the bottle neck at getting in to medical school in the first place, so once someone is in, they are basically set (as long as they can hack it).

Law schools are more than happy to profit off of students that they know won't have good job prospects when they finish.

This 100x. The AMA greatly restricts med school classes and the number of med schools in order to maintain very high salaries. They have vision and have stuck to their plan of keeping doctor salaries inflated. The ABA lets any university set up a lawschool and lets lawschools admit an absurd number of people. The ABA has no vision and has allowed the profession to become so oversaturated that salaries no longer cover student loans.

Finally the state bar exams are too easy. Everyone eventually passes and practices.

This article is about four years late. The legal field is rebounding, particularly in the energy sector. Still will never recommend going to law school

Is this common? What about being able to work the first semester?

Back in 2008, associates at big firms made $125,000 straight out of school. But by last year, that had dropped to $95,000.

I don't know if this is true.
