Becky, I agree with everything Aurebelman stated. I dropped the class last week after I saw his material, it literally appeared as if he copy and pasted it directly from some sort of PMP Prep book and it was NOT informative, it was just an outline.

Could anyone who took FIN 701 before send me the solution for the two Extra Practice Questions from Dr. Vines? (not the problems from the books - the practice questions from the professor). I asked Dr.Vines for the solutions for Module 1 but he didn't provide. Please send to trinhh62@lsus.edu. Thank you so much!

When are those enrolled in FIN 701 plan on taking Exam 1? Looks like it's going to be Saturday AM for me. Nothing else sooner works me.

I agree with previous comments about grades for MADM 701. I don't want to start module 2's writing assignment when I am not sure how i did on module 1. I don't want to submit two papers that are way off base. Discussion post is complete though and I will likely take the exam tomorrow.

Has anyone attempted the Acct quiz for this week? The slides and book have taken two different paths and I'm wondering which to follow.

Just took the ACCT701 quiz.It was just like last week. No surprises. However, the wrap up video after the quiz informs us that for the assessment we are responsible for the slides on the PPT. He specifically mentions all the ratios. I was planning on taking the assessment tonight but i will review the PPT again tommorow and just take it tomorrow. I skipped over all the slides that were not in the chapters. You will see what he says in the video once you take the quiz. Anyone else?

Some of these open-source textbooks are very poorly written. I appreciate the thought, but this is a step in the wrong direction for this program.

I just took the accounting quiz and assessment. No surprises for the quiz...similar to last week. For the assessment, I would suggest saving the math equations for the end as you will have to know the exact formula to solve the problem. It wasn't difficult, but much more time consuming this week as opposed to last.

I'm currently searching for an accounting book I can purchase, because this one is horrible.

Also, I did not review the ppt and did pretty well on the assessment. You can reference it for the formulas.

Hello, I hope someone can help me out with a few questions. I was recently accepted to LSUS and ULL in the online MBA program. In your opinion, which school is better recognized in the world? With my job, I travel alot and live in Germany at the moment. I read a post on page 90 where the responses were something like, "ULL is better in Louisiana but LSUS is better worldwide because of the LSU name." I would like a direct comparison between the schools without considering the LSU part of LSUS. I am only asking because I have never lived in Lousiana and don't know much about each school except that they are both state schools and have AACSB. Besides, most countries and companies know that LSUS is not LSU in BR. For example, the German Government has a list of each school from the United States and they even know that LSUS is not LSU in BR. From my research, I found that LSUS is a respected school and i am not suggesting that it is not; however, what would your advice be for me? ULL's online MBA or LSUS's online MBA? I noticed that the admission process was a bit more difficult with University of Lousiana Lafayette because I had to submit letters of recommendation and a Resume (even though my undergraduate CUM GPA was 3.1 and I was a business major) Second, does LSUS require a thesis? Last, is it hard to order the books on LSUS's online bookstore? Would it be a challenge to have them shipped to Germany? Do you think I could just order the book on Amazon from the ISBN number? Thank you guys/girls so much for helping! =) I hope the tone of this message did not come off as snobby. I am not bashing or suggesting that LSUS is not a good school because I know that it is. I am simply asking which of the two "good" schools would you recommend doing an online MBA with and I am not a fan of piggy back riding on other better known schools because of the name. Many UMUC students do this to University of Maryland, College Park and University of Maryland University College (UMUC) is also a state school and is good in its own right but it's not UMD.

I typed a response to this post three times and deleted it because it was so long lol. I’ll try to be brief and not go on a rant. I withdrew from UL last semester because of their poor instruction. All course material was through McGraw Hill and none of it was cohesive. It was not aligned properly at all, and the professor was merely our “professor on file” (this was actually said by the MBA director). By the time I withdrew, nearly half of my classmates did as well. I believe the issues were only with the foundation courses, but I didn’t get far enough into the program to find out. I took two courses and both had the same issues. I’m already having a better experience with LSUS in week two of my first course.
I don’t really have an opinion on UL vs LSUS reputation wise. I think if you work hard to earn an MBA from an accredited university, that is all that matters (in my opinion). Also, most of the textbooks in this program are free eBooks to save on cost for students, so no need to deal with a bookstore.
I’m sure someone who has been in the program longer than me will respond, but my time with UL was a nightmare and I felt compelled to share my experience. (Yes, this post is still too long).

Wow, thank you so much for the response! This is exactly what I wanted to know. I think I am going to go to LSUS because it seems like they have more experience with the online programs. It is my understanding that the UL online program is rather new. It's great to hear that most of the books are e-books because i can only imagine the hassle of ordering books while living in Germany. Thank you!

The online MBA program at LSUS does not require a thesis.

What a tough transition after you take ISDS 705 to go to James MKT 701. Ive already put in twice as much effort in the first week and a half of MKT as I did the entire course for ISDS. MKT is really the first class in the course I am disappointed with and it is my seventh course. I feel it is too much information scattered and pulled from too many directions to come away with a feeling that I actually got something from the course.

I wouldn't say any of the ones I have taken are that hard. Some just require more effort. MADM 701 decent amount of work but I wouldn't call it hard didn't really get anything out of the course. Meeks in MADM 760 and 751 were my two favorites. Requires a little work but easy As and good reading choices. FIN 701 and 730 with Vines are easy as for as work loads and I enjoyed them. They are just learning the material which can take some effort but his zoom sessions help. ACCT 701 requires some effort but its mainly working through problems. ISDS 705 definitely the easiest of all and should be paired with something else.

My list of easiest to hardest would be - ISDS 705, MADM 751, MADM 760, FIN 730, ACCT 701, FIN 701, MADM 701(because of workload), and Im only a week and a half in but MKT 701 last.

I'm currently taking FIN 701. I went through the reading guide (Vines is not using a book this session) and plan on watching the zoom sessions tonight. I'll work the practice test tomorrow and take the exam on Saturday AM.

Reading through old posts, it seems as though reading the reading guide/watching the vidoes will be enough to prepare you for the exams. Am I missing something?

Thanks in advance for the help.

This is generally true with 2 caveats.

1. For the qualitative (non-math) questions, make sure you can explain the concepts from the reading guide in your own words and can do it quickly. You'll get points off or miss a question entirely if you just copy / paste stuff that he gave you.

2. For the quantitative (math) questions, make sure you can identify what kind of question you're dealing with and know what formulas are applicable. Then put those formulas in with your answer so he'll know at least what you were attempting to do in case you make a math error. Work his HW questions and "extra" questions multiple times to help with this.

Being prepared enough to be able to answer both types of questions quickly was the key for me. I earned an A on every exam but the time limit was an issue for me on the first one before I knew how his exams were.
