Knotts course for MADM701 is half the work, and I love her! I haven't heard anything about the papers being returned, but Williams usually takes two weeks or so to grade so by the time you get it back, you've already submitted two other papers. Not sure if its worth it to hope that Knotts will teach it again in Summer...
I'm sure I will get an A, as with all my other courses, but its just why make it harder than it has to be haha.

How is Knotts half the work? I'm just curious about this

A friend is in the Knotts section and the papers each week are only due for one chapter (not two chapters a week) and are half the length requirement, Knotts has fewer exams, and the exam each week in Knotts has only 10 questions vs 50 in Williams.

Well, last week Ashley mentioned their weekly writing assignment was 1,000 word minimum whereas our writing assignment with Knotts was 500 word minimum. Of course, we also had to make a video last week (which was pretty easy) but this week we essentially have 2 writing assignments.

In fact, based off Knotts syllabus, I'm guessing we'll have the equivalent of 2 writing assignments from here on out. I think it's probably a wash for me. The hardest, most time consuming part for me is finding my topic and then finding my sources to back up the argument I want to make. Once I've gotten past that hurdle, if I can write 500 words, I can probably write a 1,000 without much more effort.

But everyone has their own situations, so I'm not saying she should or shouldn't take one over the other.

Nope, have you?

This is incorrect. There are 35 questions, although it's still less than 50. I would have jumped ship when everyone else on here was talking about it. To each his own I suppose. Best of luck in whatever you decide to do!

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but this isn't entirely true. The writing assignment for Knotts last week had us pick a concept to discuss from either of the 2 chapters we read. This week it is on a specific topic from one of the chapters. The minimum word count is 500 words, though.

We have 1 35 question exam every week with a 40 minute time limit. I don't know if 35 questions is better or worse than 50 questions. I still had to know 2 chapters worth of material.

We also have another assignment each week. Last week it was a video which was, admittedly, easy. This week it is a case study question, which I wrote over 600 words for. I also have to respond to a classmate's argument, which I haven't done yet. So, plus the writing assignment this week, I will have written over 1,000 words.

I don't know if one is easier than the other, but they are definitely slightly different. I guess it depends on an individual's strengths and weaknesses.

(Not trying to start an argument, but want anyone searching this forum in the future to have accurate info when trying to compare these 2 professors.)

Hey DieDaily, yeah its hard to pick a topic from this textbook haha! Ok, so maybe I will just stick it through, ACCT701 is super easy it would be a shame to not double up.

Yeah so they do seem pretty comparable, thank you so much for this insight, it really helps with my decision.

Wow, yeah 35 is definitely not 10!! I feel better now, thank you guys for clearing this up. I will have to get my friend back for stressing me out so much!

I just want you to have a complete picture before jumping ship. I don't know if the grass is greener over here with Knotts, but it's certainly a little different.

Having said that, it sounds like we have more variety with our assignments but the effort required is probably about equal. And yeah...if you have Ambrosio I'd try to stick with it and score 2 for one. His class and ISDS 705 were 2 courses I wish I had known more about before taking them. I'd be graduating this Summer rather than this Fall.

Thanks for the tips, I heard mixed reviews for ISDS705 (someone said it was the hardest course they took!)

Is it me or is the Acct ppt this week over very different info than the book? I've made it through cht 7 reading and started cht 9, but the slides seem like they are from another book. Anybody else see this?

I am only halfway through chapter 9 but the power point looks like it has much of the same information. The order is way different than presented in the book, so you might be onto something, but the concepts seem to be the same from where I'm at in ch 9.

You'll be fine. I took ISDS 705 with Lin last time and it required little time.

It's not bad with Shaughnessy. He is a fine teacher that offers online video Q&A twice a week. The class requires work, but I felt it rewarded those who put in the time.

I did, but last week they seemed to match up better than this week. I guess we'll see if the book or slides is the better route after the quiz and assessment.

Yes, chapter 9 is taking a lot longer to read through than last week so I am hoping this week's assignments are just as straight forward as last week's.

I concur. I took this course solo last term because I had no other choice, and it felt like I had the term off. Very little time required
