I work for McGraw-Hill Education and I can tell you all that this no book/free book initiative is not just an LSUS thing. Its a nationwide initiative, thats happening at pretty much all Universities and Colleges. Our sales have tanked because of it but from a learning perspective, we are hearing lots of complaints from students who are not satisfied with these free books. SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT: MHE is trying to help lower book costs for students by offering students rentals, this is huge especially if your using our smartbooks and connect products.

I work in Higher Ed so I can safely speculate that their endgame is the endgame of all higher ed institutions….put more butts in seats, i.e. higher enrollments. Their price point, coupled with the LSU name brand is nearly unbeatable but to attract MORE students(increase enrollments) they realized they had to offer more specialties/concentrations. I wouldn't be surprised to see the specialty/concentrations grow even more over the next 12 months.

I think Meeks is one of the best Professors in the program. He's always available. Google this book: "The Lean Startup" by Eric Ries, its what MADM 751 is mostly based upon. The subject matter is very interesting and you can use it immediately in the real world. Meeks does put you in a group where you have to do weekly video conferences, but IF you have a great group, it's enjoyable. You also have to weekly writing assignments which are not hard at all. Finally, you have a final paper based on the all of the topics you wrote about in those weekly assignments. He just wants to know that you learned the subject matter and can write about it intelligently. I don't think its too much work, i'm currently taking MADM 751 and MADM 701(with Knotts) while working a full time job. I took Meeks for MADM 760 too, the class setup is almost identical. An "A" is achievable in both of Meeks' classes( MADM 751 & 760). Sorry about any grammatical errors, i'm using my cell phone.
Business Knight,

All i saw was a guy complaining, IN WEEK 2, about how much he didn't like how a professor was running a class. I took Ambrosio and got an "A" without the extra credit and really enjoyed it. Before you try to avise future students, why don't you at least complete the entire class first? In addition, if you really have a problem with how he's got things set up, voice your concerns on the class message board, that way it can help the other 400 students+ taking the class too, afterall that is what your trying to do, right?
Ambrosio def has a little "Nutty Professor" in him but the guy is EXTREMELY fair. He also makes himself available and he returns emails and replies to comments. Bring any frustration to his attention via the comments component of the class, if hes at fault, he'll own up to it. Like I said he is extremely fair, If he messes up or sees that the class is not doing well, he will offer INSANE chances for extra credit. He does review scores on the mid term and final and if he determines that the vast majority of the class didn't do well, guess what he'll do?… Offer insane extra credit! Good luck with the class!

Becky, I agree with everything Aurebelman stated. I dropped the class last week after I saw his material, it literally appeared as if he copy and pasted it directly from some sort of PMP Prep book and it was NOT informative, it was just an outline.

On a side note, I thought I was escaping Williams by taking Knotts' class only to find out today that my original TA for MADM 701was just replaced by Dr. Kimberley Williams!

Hey Luke14, try emailing your graduate coordinator and tell her that really need to be in that class, she MAY be able to manually put you in, "may" is the key word. Good-luck!

Good to know. During the break, I may spend some time researching what kind of management job opportunities, within the casino industry, exists in the DC area.

I had my eye on that class too, maybe it's because I was daydreaming about getting a job at the MGM(Washington, DC).
@Jasons_MBA, I def confirmed this with my graduate coordinator, Danielle Voumard. I specifically asked her about ISDS 715, ISDS 710 & MADM 730. She said they all are acceptable as MBA electives. She said they are in the process of updating their info to reflect this. I specifically needed to know because before you graduate, you have to submit a "request for degree checkout" (done thru Moodle) and you have to state when you intend to graduate. They evaluate and reconcile your classes to see if you are in compliance. Normally moodle will do a preliminary evaluation but the reason I contacted her was because Moodle wasn't recognizing any of these classes. She went on to say that for now, I can use her email response to me stating that those classes are acceptable and before classes start I should be done with the degree checkout which will serve as iron clad assurance. By that time, these new classes should be updated as well. For your own benefit/assurance, I'd suggest contacting your coordinator to confirm as well, just to be on the safe side :usa:

@Jeaux, I don't know anything about the course other than its International Business. I didn't have a lot of options for electives in AP2 as you can prob attest to. I didn't want to take HCAD750 or Fin 720, that left me with MADM 715 AND MADM 730. I chose MADM 730 1) Because I am anticipating learning business management/strategy processes that can be useful to me in corporate america & 2) based on some students on this thread that stated they got an A in his MADM 710 class, such as the post below:

Of those two, I'd take MADM 720 solo. There's a lot of reading.

I took Sanjay for MADM 701. Got an A so its hard to advise against taking him.

I took James and learned A LOT! BUT after taking 8 classes, I can say that James by far gives thee most amount of work. From my barometer, I think a "B" is definitely achievable. I got an "A" but had to legitimately put in 20-25 hours per week to get it. In addition, I found myself taking days off of work just so that i can get in an extra study session and to also get projects done. I've heard that Darrat may be a better choice and slightly easier option towards getting an "A". I say slightly because I've heard that Darrat gives extra credit and slightly less work. Another student also mentioned to me that he achieved over a 100% in Darrat's class, this type of feat is most likely NOT achievable with James.

I'm with you MTNTREKS, I just dropped Williams, willing to take my chances with Knotts!
@BusinessKnight,

I took Acct 701 and Fin 701 at the same time and got A's in both. I don't think its fair to use ISDS 705 as a typical benchmark as that is prob the easiest class in this entire program(especially if you know how to use the search function in a pdf doc). I can assure you that Acct 701 and Fin 701 are NOT easy A's and you will have to put forth a fair amount of work, weekly, if you want to achieve A's in them. I've never taken FIN 710 so I have no idea how much the workload is in that class. Unless FIN 710's workload is at or below the level of ISDS 705, i'd say just take ACCT 701 & Fin 701.
