this should put the myth to rest. save your money.
The long handed down concept of the 3000 miles oil change was the brain child of Jiffy Lube and propagated by oil industry officials. While it's not exactly a scam per-se, it's quite a lucrative myth for the engine oil maintenance industry.

I have onstar. It monitors my driving habits. So far, I am averaging 11,000 miles between oil changes. I have a diesel if that makes any difference.

I use Mobil1 synthetic and a Mobil1 extended performance oil filter and change my oil every 8k miles.

Changing oil is trashy. I leave my Maybachs on the side of the road when the engine locks up and have my team of midgets hoist me on their shoulders and take me to buy another.

About 8,000-9,000 for me. I used to go about 12,000 on synth.

You're supposed to change the oil? I have a jeep, they are tough.

My buddy's dad had a leased maxima for 75,000 miles and didn't change the oil once. I can't even fathom the amount of sludge that engine had in it when he turned the car in

sounds like a story the oil guy told me. he told a old lady she didnt have to change her till about 10k miles. he talked to her 2 years later and she blew the engine because she thought he said you never had to change it with synthetic oil. only thing that mad it blow was the oil leak she already had so it just ran dry.

The only people that actually recommend doing this are sleezeball folks at benny's and 5 minute oil change that take advantage of people not having a clue about their vehicles. I've never seen a vehicle owner's manual recommend anything under 5,000 miles per change.

If people would read their damn users manuals, they'd already know that 3k miles may not be the recommended duration to change the oil.

The only kind of manual a real man has any use for is a manual transmission.

I'll say it here too.
If your vehicle has an oil life monitor/change oil light, do what it tells you to do and use what is specified in your owners manual.
If it says to use conventional 5w30 and the light comes on at 7k, go with it. It's right.
