As quality increases, prices rise exponentially in most cases...

For what we do and where we do it, the high priced chests just don't make sense. Too large on the outside, to limited on the inside, too expensive, too apt to get stolen and from what I've seen heavy. Otherwise, I'm all in for good gear.
PS, ice isn't a problem with a good ice maker.

I buy good stuff but I generally get it on sale and pay a fraction of the price.

I watch field supply and sites like that. I also shop at the end of the season. I buy it when it is a good price and throw it in the closet till I need it.

You are probably correct.
Filson is high as a cat's behind now.

As mentioned previously, I bet f I call Yeti or Filson with a problem they will do their best to fix it.
That has been my experience with Maui Jim and Orvis.

Customer service isn't dead, it just costs more.

Sometimes. There are good quality products that cost more. There are also average products with brand appeal that are a worse value than some lesser priced products

This

If I'm buying something to last a season or two I'll run to academy. If I need something that's gonna last 30 years I'll be spending some money.

I had a new Yeti roadie that was leaking from the drain because it was not drilled square. I went on their website before the opened and filled out a form. 30 minutes later I had a call from someone. No questions asked they were replacing it. They emailed me a shipping label and a label to put inside the ice chest when it was returned. Could not have been happier with the service ...

I can get them, but there was a price increase at the first of the year and I question if the value is still there. Even with the discount...

Awesome.

At 52, I've bought a bunch of stuff that I've thrown away.

Now I'm buying stuff that will outlast me.

People don't by yeti's to keep their ice cold, they buy em so as to put the yeti sticker on their truck. Look at me I own a 400 dollar ice chest.

Look man, I got tired of my beer getting hot at the tailgates.

I didn't even put the sticker on my truck.

At first.

I agree with the most part, but some things the higher $$$ item is way better like scopes, binoculars, etc.

But for camo clothing, Im with you. I just made 25years old, and I remember being a kid going to a store that sold outdoor gear and all that and I would always want the high pricey stuff because I saw it on all those hunting shoes and crap. My dad would laugh at me and say "when you stop growing we can get you the nice, high quality stuff, but as for now youre getting clothes out the bargain bin".

Hated it back then, but completely understand it now. Kids grow like a weed and need new size clothes every year or so. And now that I am older and done growing and paying for my own shite.... I still have only bought myself 2 high quality pieces of camo wear. 1st thing was a nice pair of danner boots, mostly because if my feet arent comfortable, im not comfortable and when im not comfortable, im pissed. So I had to get me a nice, comfortable pair of boots.

And the other thing I bought that was high quality was a big coat that is perfect for the cold mornings and evenings in the stand.

Other than that, I just get whatever is comfortable for me.

But, the reason people associate good products with high prices is because the brands with high prices tend to be the more popular brand and have a lot of commercials / ads and stuff. They can get away with it being high price because will pay the high price for it.

A few things that are worth the price IMO

Warm weather coats/parkas

Optics/scopes

Fishing Reels

Dogs

Boots

Most everthing else is a matter of taste. Just my experience

it just depends for me, i own 3 yeti coolers and didnt buy any.. but to me they are worth the money because they dont break. I will never have to buy another cooler unless i lose them. Guns, well i have them from $100 to $2000 and as far as rifles go.. give me a $300 savage any day over any other. Camo clothing i wear academy and walmart.. i cant pay for the expensive stuff, doesnt seem worth it. Im in the minority on optics. I can put a $150 prostaff on anything and be just fine, as a matter of fact i sold a zeiss and replaced it with a prostaff Dogs, got both my yellow labs off of craigslist free and are fine dogs.

it just depends really on what each prefers. There is no right or wrong
