Well one of them has been doing dwg for 30 years. He use to work with an arch and his son works for him full time now. Hes in demand and has a great rep. The 150 houses he draws a year dont have a problem with him.

Architects will charge 45-55 cents a foot. Additional changes will be charged by the hour, usually a few hundred bucks when I alter the house to fit a lot and make a few changes to the interior. Post tension should run you about $1.15 a sqft of your slab. That includes installation of cables, cable stress, and engineering/stamp.

Yeah, I'm not sure if people understand the engineering work on the post-tension slab.

I use Coast Concrete Services in BR. I believe that have an in house engineer that does all the cable layouts. It's included in the price, so you don't have to outsource the engineering.

I think if you bring in more than 12" of fill for the slab that you have to let it sit for so long and have at least 96% compaction before they will warranty it.

My buddy that builds houses told me to look into this drafting (specifically houses), his guy is beyond backed up and is having to pass work on to another local guy.
There are no schools around here with direct CAD programs. I have no experience. Might be a pipe dream, just wanted to entertain the suggestion.

you can learn revit in a month or so with lots of practice
well enough to do concept drawings anyway

Madden may have a good price but he is hard to work with. He drew the plans for a house we built in 2008. I thought he was kinda quirky because he against any minor changes my wife wanted to make. He eventually did but it was like pulling teeth.
We built our current house in 2013 and my wife called just to see if he had anything close already drawn. We wanted a 2 story farmhouse with raised porches. He was very short and said he hated drawing that style of house. She said her goodbyes and we found someone else.

We just had madden do ours and it was a terrible experience. Luckily my builder is a friend and handled it. He does all the plans for him so we thought he would help him out faster..wrong. He lied and kept making promises he never kept. 2 months later we have a set of plans and are finally starting Monday!
I took his cloverdale plan and modified it on cad and sent him the PDF of it. I had minor changes, made it a tad bigger and it took forever. Oh well it's all over with now and we are happy with it but from what I gathered everyone has the same experience with him.

If it's a standard stick build home with a slab on grade... you don't need the foundation plan stamped. It just has to meet the minimum requirements.

That is the one place I feel the best with "overpaying". Do not go off price with the framer, go off quality of work, recommendation, and feel for the person doing the work. A quality framer will help you with schedule, other subs they "prefer" working around, and they most literally set the entire foundation for all the remaining work (other than actual foundation). Any mistake or lack of quality by a framer will only be compounded through the rest of the process and is very hard to correct or conceal.

I used to do engineer on PT slabs
It's not rocket science, maybe 2-4k (design and stamped plans) for a 3000 sf home
