I'm looking for an alternative to crape Myrtle and Japanese magnolias. My neighbors have them and I need to one up.

Also just help in general. I need to be the alpha of the garden!

Loquat is a cool evergreen tree and you'll get the plums after a while

Bradford pears are putting on a hell of show right now, but they get big and can outgrow their place if not planned correctly

Flowering cherry trees are great when they bloom

Vitex

Magnolias, I don't care for the tree but make a pretty and fragrant flower

How big of a tree are you looking for?

Go native if you can, maybe some sort of hawthorn like mayhaw.

Edit: Never mind, I forgot how tall they got...but do try to go native if you can.

Need to get ready for tomatoes and cucumbers. Last year was a failure of a garden. Got to do better this year.

Posted this in wrong garden thread. Carry on.

Take a look at the Vitex...it grows quickly...you can form it to a tree or bush depending on the way you trim it...puts out a purple elongated flower and blooms all spring and summer...I put one in at 20" and in 3 years its 12' tall and gorgeous...you probably have some in your area you can take a look at...

So we went to a nursery and we liked the Indian hawthorne I can't remember the species. I guess we moved to shrubs lol. Are there any others that you would suggest?
