Yeah, she should of at least waited until the intruder broke through the door before she shot. That way the intruder would've had as equal of chance to kill her as she did him. Chivalry is dead.

Yes, he had just moved into a new house, came home drunk, and tried to get into his neighbors house by accident. The guy yelled out that he had a gun but apparently he didn't hear him. He was trying to jimmy the door open with his leathermen tool

I remember my brother woke up in the middle of the night and a drunk was knocking at the door. My niece was asleep and my brother told the guy he got the wrong house. The drunk guy demanded that he be let inside (he was calling my brother "Joe", and that's not my brother's name). He started busting on the door and almost broke the door completely in. My brother had his gun and was ready to shoot through the door. He couldn't see EXACTLY what he would have shot, but I wouldn't fault him for shooting.
The old woman issued warnings, she wasn't expecting visitors, she didn't know the man, and there's no telling what he would have done drunk.
Tough situation, imo.

Him being a firefighter only makes a difference if he was trying to enter her door because there was smoke coming out from under it or something.

I was just talking to my wife about this the other day. I told her, "I wonder how many people get wasted and go to the wrong house?". EVERY single house looks the exact same.

A situation like this happened in Louisiana some years ago in an apartment complex. A party was going on in one unit and a drunken patron wandered outside for awhile before trying to re-enter the party. He opened the door to the wrong apartment and was shot dead by the resident. No charges were filed. If someone enters your home uninvited in this state and you pop them thats just the way it goes. The lesson to be learned from this is not to enter someone's home without an invitation.

That is a very shitty story. It sucks for everyone involved. Cant really put blame on the fireman or the old lady. It just sucks.

This is the problem I see. He never entered the home. For her sake, I hope he did some damage to the door before she started shooting. If he was only outside yelling, this could go bad in court. She should have just called police if all he was doing was knocking and making noise.
This reminds me of that Halloween murder in BR circa 1993. Yoshi Hattori

This lady was wrong.
It is tragic but she was in no danger unless the door was partially open. She should never have shot through her door.
