Not sure Indy can beat that.

Avoiding Ohio when possible is good advice generally.

Of course, it isn't the worst place to be, but there is a reason it is bleeding people.

Damn, I was about to hit the submit button, but I came back and read this.

It got a bad rap about the time Pittsburgh did. Rust belt, jobs leaving. Both have had a resurgence. Downtown Cleveland is doing fairly well.

I travel to Cleveland probably 5 or 6 times a year. Most any large city is going to have its good areas and its bad areas. Nice in the summer, cold in the winter. But if I was open to relocating and it was a good job I would certainly look long and hard at it.

If you need a job, you need a job. With a couple of exceptions, you can build a good life in the shittiest of American cities.

There are uniquely good things about most cities, and while I wouldn't want to spend much time figuring them out in Cleveland, I'd do it if absolutely necessary.

Well again, if it tells you anything, I'm a southern boy, I've lived in a lot of places (including Cleveland) and I have zero qualms about going back there. It really grew on me.

Some of these tards are miserable wherever they live. I've personally found something beautiful about every place I've lived in or spent significant time. Cleveland ranks close to the top for me though.

Never been to Cleveland but they can't sell cold beer in convenience stores in Indiana. I wouldn't last a week.

yup. really, any city that size will have atleast some neighborhoods, activities, people etc... that can keep you interested for a year or two.

if you cant find ANYTHING redeemable in city, its likely you and not the city.

well if beer is what you love, I think Cleveland happens to be one of the most beer friendly cities in the world.

Where is it at in Cleveland? The suburbs are very nice (and by nice I mean Stepford-y and segregated )

My friend's parents are pretty wealthy, and they live just outside of Cleveland. Their place is really nice.

Wow Michael Cocks, you really have a way with words. I'll go for it. I'll worry about moving if and when I actually get a job offer. Hell, the money may be so good that I won't be able to turn it down.

yup - buffalo is another city in the region thats quietly making progress turning around its reputation. economically it was tough times through there but if you have a good job, its a region thats better than most of the jokes would indicate. a lot of blue collar, fun people.

if you were committing to move to one of the cities permanently with no chance to relocate ever, -- it might not be ideal for the career depending on your industry, but as a stopover with things lined up dont hesitate to jump on it.

This is the right attitude. Cities are what you make it really. Other than the weather.

I'd probably take Indianapolis over Cleveland, it trends a little more up than Cleveland, but Cleveland has an interesting personality. If it's only for 9 months for a job, in this job environment, you take a shot at either and roll with it. Especially if you're young.

Downtown Indy is really nice and getting better. The area around Lucas oil stadium is great and there is a pretty cool minor league baseball park next door, along with a soccer stadium. The locals are Midwestern friendly and it's easy to meet people.

I wouldn't hesitate to spend a couple of years there.

I lived in Baton Rouge for the first 24 years of my life, then moved to Bloomington, Indiana, for 3 and have been in Indy the past 5. The weather issue is overblown. You get somewhat accustomed to it.

As has been discussed for Cleveland, there are some really nice suburbs around Indy. Downtown has a lot to offer for those who live there, but I prefer living in one of the suburbs so that we can have a large yard and all. I like it here.

Indy is an alright city. A bit cookie cutter and bland, but no reason it couldn't be an enjoyable place to live.

I'm telling you, inexpensive tickets for 3 major sporting events. A resurgent downtown. 30 mins from football HOF. Rock n roll HOF is there. Decent night life. 2 hours or less from several other major cities, oh and Canada which makes for an awesome wknd. An easy 6.5 hour drive from Chicago.

You could have a very fun and interesting year.

Well it sounds like between the beer and the possibility of becoming friends with Joe Walsh and having him join your garage band this is a no-brainer.
