Wage inequality and women

In 2010 the median income of FTYR workers was $42,800 for men, compared to $34,700 for women. The female-to-male earnings ratio was 0.81, slightly higher than the 2008 ratio. (per wiki)
I am curious. Is there data that shows that the average woman, over a 40 year work life (25-65) will be out of the office roughly 20% of the time with family issues?
i am curious that the OT says.
I believe that if a man and woman, on average, were paid the same dollar for dollar that the man would then be in a position of inequity. Over those same 40 years I will see zero days out of the office for reasons that are legally afforded to a woman.

It
is
bullshite
Studies don't account for the fact that men and women often take type of different jobs (College education examples would be teachers versus engineers, non college education would be oil rig workers versus customer service/retail).
It also doesn't take into account that women often take time off for family and stuff like that so they tend to have less experience than their male counterparts.
Even further, men are more likely to negotiate and fight for higher salaries. Women tend to value work life balance and stuff of that nature more so than men. Basically, they are just happy having jobs more so than men.
The truth is, that is women really made 20% less than men for the same job, companies would be hiring them like crazy to help the bottom line.
It is a bullshite argument/talking point parroted by morons.

Women work lower paying jobs on average. Women change jobs or even career fields more often. Women get pregnant.

Go read Freakonomics or SuperFreakonomics (can't remember which one)...
In it there is a chapter on a study on sick time usage done on a large Italian bank where the results showed that women took a significant amount more sick time and funnily enough, took sick days pretty regularly in 28-day cycles.
Point being, women work less, thus they get paid less.

They are going to wind up with all the money anyway. What's hers is hers. What's yours is hers. Just get used to it.

Median income should be irrelevant. What is relevant is whether men and women make the same pay when they are doing the same job.

Actually most of them do. I'm strictly talking about academic peer-reviewed studies, not the agitprop stuff.

Yes, they do.

They take this into account as well.
Most studies at least attempt, albeit imperfectly, to consider all these arguments and find that these factors do in fact have a big impact in narrowing the gap. But that gap is still there and it isn't really clear why. Some of course use this to argue that it must be discrimination but of course that argument is specious - the reality is that we simply don't know.

and most of the time they are perfectly ok...they know they won't be questioned by male bosses about their menstrual cycle.

Oh everybody knows. But if we say it they go apeshit about sexism or whatever

Either way, this is not comparing Apples to Apples.

In all of my adult working life, I have never had female coworkers stay home because of their period.
Bunch of idiots in here, to be expected.
Oh and men and women have same rules when it applies to sick days and PTO... excluding the whole giving birth thing, which is a little important I would think.
