Some companies do, but don't act like all do. Mine doesn't for sure and I refuse to show you my handbook.

I read an article last week that with Obamacare employer mandate kicking in next year, the wage inequality is get larger.

After having children, many women do not want to work late hours or weekends, or travel out of town. This would account for part of the disparity.

ladies have to take off a buttload of time for sick kids as well

I would say more people work for companies with <50 on payroll, but of course this is the OT where everyone is a small business millionaire.

The only thing that would disqualify me would be the top 10% part, but that certainly isn't in our handbook

The overwhelming norm is that it is HIGHLY more likely and common for women to get any sort of paid maternity leave than men. Whether or not you want to admit that is your own problem.

I'd bet a shite ton a money that the ratio of days taken by women for maternity leave far exceeded those of men taking paternity whether paid or unpaid. Having a law that allows the same 12 weeks of unpaid leave doesn't take away from the fact that men tend to miss less time from work than women. If you don't think that factors into pay then I don't know what to say.

why the need to go there?

Just saying that the 50 person law eliminates a lot of people. A lot doesnt have to be >50%.
